About

Leadership is an activity, not a position. Azavea employees are supported in taking on their own initiatives at the company. We realize that we stand on the shoulders of others, and aim to always treat people with respect and fairness. Azavea operates with a spirit of community and public service. We believe our work can contribute to a more peaceful, just, and prosperous world. We believe that an open, collaborative community leads to better and more impactful work. As a practice, we use open data and build open source tooling whenever we can. Azavea encourages our colleagues to take on new challenges that expand their knowledge and professional skills. This dual-purpose app allows students to use game-like tools and scientists to use advanced hydrologic models to discover how changes in the environment affect watersheds. An open source platform created in partnership with the world bank to mitigate road accidents through road incident data management and analysis.

About

BatchGeo is a web-based tool that allows users to quickly and easily create maps from location data. With BatchGeo, users can take a list of addresses or coordinates and turn them into a customized map that can be shared with others. The service is often used for business purposes, such as creating a map of customer locations or sales territories, but it can also be used for personal purposes, such as mapping out a road trip or vacation itinerary. To use BatchGeo, users simply upload a spreadsheet of location data or copy and paste it into the tool. BatchGeo then geocodes the data, meaning it translates the addresses into latitude and longitude coordinates that can be plotted on a map. Users can customize the map by adding labels, markers, and other features, and can then share the map via a link or embed code. BatchGeo also offers features such as the ability to search for locations and calculate distances between points on the map.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • I use it to keep track of my club's membership to show where everyone lives and how much area they are spread over. Lots of fun for our group to see where everyone lives.
  • Very simple and straightforward, please don't change. I like how you can number the points on a map.
  • Easy to use and effective for its purpose. You can drag and drop from excel to build your map and the share it with your friends.
  • It works well. You get everything you need. I use it all the time for work. It's very easy to use and clear.
  • Easy to upload locations and addresses. Easy to view output on a map. Let's you see outlying locations.

Cons

  • I can't really think of any cons. Nothing I have ever done with the product has ever created any problems.
  • Zooming in and out is a bit funky. It's either too zoomed in or too zoomed out.
  • None. I have nothing bad to say about it. My experience has been good.
  • It could number the locations to make it easier to see the different ones.
  • It would be great if it let you select a group of locations and listed the mileage/distance to reach all of them.
