About

Welcome to subversion, the online home of the Apache® Subversion® software project. Subversion is an open-source version control system. Founded in 2000 by CollabNet, Inc., the Subversion project and software have seen incredible success over the past decade. Subversion has enjoyed and continues to enjoy widespread adoption in both the open-source arena and the corporate world. Subversion is developed as a project of the Apache Software Foundation, and as such is part of a rich community of developers and users. We're always in need of individuals with a wide range of skills, and we invite you to participate in the development of Apache Subversion. Subversion exists to be universally recognized and adopted as an open-source, centralized version control system characterized by its reliability as a safe haven for valuable data; the simplicity of its model and usage; and its ability to support the needs of a wide variety of users and projects.

About

Scan for vulnerabilities and control who can access different feeds and actions, all within minutes of download and fast install. ProGet is self-managed and is available in a powerful free version that can be upgraded as needed. ProGet helps you package applications and components so you can ensure your software is built only once, and then deployed consistently across environments. This means everyone can be certain that what goes to production is exactly what was built and tested. Third-party packages (such as NuGet, npm, PowerShell, and Chocolatey) and Docker containers are also supported, allowing you to enforce quality standards, monitor for open-source licenses, and scan for vulnerabilities across all packages, much earlier in the development cycle. With high availability, load-balancing, and multi-site replication, ProGet can centralize your organization’s software applications and components to provide uniform access to developers and servers.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Very simple to use. Quick and easy setup. Excellent plugins available for integration with IDE's like Eclipse. Requires little maintenance. Free.
  • - I like the fact that svn does not require much learning, its commands are pretty intuitive and easy to pick up.
  • - SVN, unlike Git, is relatively easier to pick up and yet has better features than something like CVS.

Cons

  • Interface has become outdated (especially in 2022). Conflict resolutions need to be done manually. Git is a better alternative for most cases.
  • I have absolutely no complaints about any aspect of subversion.
  • - The updates that SVN receives can really screw up things sometimes.
