About

Ante is a self-contained coding agent that lives in your terminal and self-organizes. One ~15MB Rust binary, zero runtime dependencies, works with 12+ providers or fully offline with local GGUF models. Continuously evaled in public: #1 same-model agent on Terminal-Bench 2.1, every result pinned to a build you can download and audit.

About

Gemini CLI is a free, open-source AI agent that integrates Gemini’s powerful AI capabilities directly into developers’ command line terminals. It offers fast, lightweight access to Gemini 3 Pro, enabling developers to generate code, solve problems, and manage tasks using natural language prompts. The CLI supports up to 60 model requests per minute and 1,000 requests per day at no cost, with additional paid options for professionals requiring higher usage. Gemini CLI includes advanced features like Google Search grounding for real-time web context, prompt customization, and automation within scripts. It is fully extensible and open source, welcoming community contributions via GitHub. Designed to enhance workflow efficiency, Gemini CLI brings AI-powered coding assistance to the terminal environment.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Gemini CLI is really useful from a developer’s point of view because it brings AI right into the place I already spend a lot of time: the terminal. I can ask questions, work through code, debug issues, generate commands, summarize files, and handle development tasks without constantly jumping back to a browser tab. I like that it is open source and built around an agent-style workflow. That makes it feel more transparent and flexible than a closed coding assistant, especially if you care about understanding how the tool works or want to contribute to it. The Gemini 2.5 Pro connection is a big plus too. Having a strong reasoning model with a large context window behind a lightweight CLI makes it useful for real coding work, not just quick autocomplete-style help. I also like the MCP and Google Search support. For developers building agents, automations, or research-heavy workflows, the ability to connect tools and pull in current information makes Gemini CLI feel more like a serious agent platform than a simple command-line chatbot.

Cons

  • Gemini CLI still needs developer judgment. Like any AI coding tool with terminal access, I would not blindly run everything it suggests or let it make big changes without review. It can also run into the same kinds of issues that affect other AI coding CLIs: configuration problems, API errors, command failures, and tool-invocation bugs. One empirical study of Claude Code, Codex, and Gemini CLI found that many reported bugs in these tools are tied to functionality, integrations, configuration, terminal behavior, and command execution. I would also be careful with secrets, production systems, destructive commands, and large repo changes. The terminal is powerful, so an AI agent inside the terminal needs clear permissions and a cautious workflow.
