About
AWS Shield is a managed Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection service that safeguards applications running on AWS. AWS Shield provides always-on detection and automatic inline mitigations that minimize application downtime and latency, so there is no need to engage AWS Support to benefit from DDoS protection. There are two tiers of AWS Shield - Standard and Advanced. All AWS customers benefit from the automatic protections of AWS Shield Standard, at no additional charge. AWS Shield Standard defends against most common, frequently occurring network and transport layer DDoS attacks that target your web site or applications. When you use AWS Shield Standard with Amazon CloudFront and Amazon Route 53, you receive comprehensive availability protection against all known infrastructure (Layer 3 and 4) attacks.

About
Akamai Prolexic is a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) protection platform designed to defend cloud, on-premises, and hybrid infrastructure against large-scale network attacks. It can be deployed as an always-on or on-demand cloud service, as an on-premises solution powered by Corero, or as a hybrid combination of both approaches. Prolexic routes incoming traffic through its protection infrastructure, inspects it for attacks, filters malicious traffic, and delivers legitimate traffic to protected systems. The service operates across 32 global anycast scrubbing centers with more than 20 Tbps of dedicated DDoS defense capacity, supported by Akamai's network with more than 1 Pbps of capacity. Prolexic provides a 100% platform availability SLA, a zero-second mitigation SLA, dynamic IPv4 and IPv6 mitigation controls, network-wide ACL and firewall rules, and 24/7/365 support.
