About

AWS Device Farm is an application testing service that lets you improve the quality of your web and mobile apps by testing them across an extensive range of desktop browsers and real mobile devices; without having to provision and manage any testing infrastructure. The service enables you to run your tests concurrently on multiple desktop browsers or real devices to speed up the execution of your test suite, and generates videos and logs to help you quickly identify issues with your app. Test your app in parallel against a massive collection of physical devices in the AWS Cloud. Use one of our built-in frameworks, to test your applications without having to write or maintain test scripts, or use one of our supported automation testing frameworks. Gesture, swipe, and interact with devices in real time, directly from your web browser. Run your Selenium tests in parallel on multiple versions of Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Firefox, that are hosted in the AWS Cloud.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Many device/OS testing options in Desktop, IOS and Android versions. The audio prompt when website is displaying in target device and ready to be tested is convenient.

Cons

  • The UI is not intuitive or convenient. For example, if one has navigated to a particular iOS version which has a list of available devices that you are testing—after testing one device (such as iPhone 12 Pro Max just as an example), and concluding that particular test—you have to go all the way back to re-set up what you want to test: Navigate back to 'Start a Browser Live Test', re-select 'iOS' from 'Desktop, iOS and Android' menu, re-select the target iOS version from the drop down. re-select location (EU or US) then scroll to select a device from the same list of devices you are working with, and even have to re-paste the url of the website you are testing. If only you could return to the device options for all that same criteria to just get to the device list without having to navigate through all the choices again! Very annoying. As well, there is a lot of drop-downs and scrolling to navigate through the selection criteria as the window is not very large. CrossBrowerTesting was so much easier and quicker to use. Second complaint: it seems like 1/3 of the time, the desired device to check does not make a connection to the video feed, is locked, device not connected to the internet, or other number of strange screens/notices display instead of the just showing the website you want to test.
