About

AWS Database Migration Service helps you migrate databases to AWS quickly and securely. The source database remains fully operational during the migration, minimizing downtime to applications that rely on the database. The AWS Database Migration Service can migrate your data to and from most widely used commercial and open-source databases. AWS Database Migration Service can migrate your data to and from most of the widely used commercial and open source databases. It supports homogeneous migrations such as Oracle to Oracle, as well as heterogeneous migrations between different database platforms, such as Oracle to Amazon Aurora. Migrations can be from on-premises databases to Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) or Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), databases running on EC2 to RDS, or vice versa, as well as from one RDS database to another RDS database. It can also move data between SQL, NoSQL, and text-based targets.

About

CrossMigrateDB is a Windows application for migrating, replicating, and synchronizing data across different(or same) database systems. It connects with MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, SQLite, Microsoft Access, Firebird, IBM DB2, Visual FoxPro, dBase, and other platforms and services. Users configure source and target connections, select tables, map schemas and data types, apply filters, run jobs, and review progress and logs. Additional functions include schema and data comparison, full and incremental synchronization, scheduled automation, and multi-threaded processing. The software is intended for database administrators, developers, consultants, and IT teams modernizing legacy systems or maintaining data across mixed database environments. It is distributed as an installable Windows product; its trial excludes full data migration.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Data migration using AWS Data Migration Service is very quick, the mapping between a source and target systems is very easy. The best thing is its ability to scale the replication instance as per requirement.

Cons

  • The speed of data migration slows down when you try migrating BLOBs into 'Full BOLB' mode. Documentation is limited.
