About

3DCoat is the one application that has all the tools you need to take your 3D idea from a block of digital clay all the way to a production ready, fully textured organic or hard surface model. Today 3DCoat is available to learn at 300+ Universities, colleges and schools worldwide. 3DCoat is one of the most advanced software applications for creating detailed 3D models. Where other applications in this market segment tend to specialize in one specific task, such as Digital Sculpting or Texture Painting, 3DCoat provides High-End capability across multiple tasks in an asset creation pipeline. These include Sculpting, Retopology, UV Editing , PBR Texture Painting and Rendering. So it can be called a 3D texturing software and 3D texture painting software and 3D sculpting program and Retopology software and UV mapping software and 3D rendering software all combined. In short, 3DCoat removes the need to purchase (and learn) multiple specialty software titles.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Over the past 25+ years, I’ve worked with a wide range of 3D animation and modeling applications, but I consistently return to Animation:Master. Its intuitive interface and powerful character animation tools make it a standout choice, many of its features are still unmatched in high-end applications or require additional plugins. I particularly enjoy its spline-based patch modeling system, which offers a unique and efficient approach to creating detailed models. When I need to export assets, the resulting topology is clean and production ready, making it easy to integrate my work into other pipelines. Animation:Master continues to be a go-to tool in my workflow, especially when character animation is a priority.
  • Being able to move already created characters. Details on the internet. Tutorials to watch and learn.

Cons

  • It is a spline-based application, so it's not easy to import geometry for use when rendering in A:M. However, you can import props that are polygonal objects as well. Its renderer is not as up to date as those in newer applications, but it still gives excellent results once you learn its ins and outs. I have used it's renderer on many projects over the years, from animation to print for book illustrations and package design.
  • Not getting any support from the software's creator, not being able to download the product more than once, not being able to try it for free first.
