x360ce, or Xbox 360 Controller Emulator, is a Windows utility that lets many gamepads, joysticks, wheels, and other controllers behave like an Xbox 360 controller. It is mainly used for PC games that support XInput controllers but do not properly recognize older or non-Xbox DirectInput devices. Older versions worked by placing configuration and DLL files inside a game folder, while version 4 uses a virtual Xbox 360 controller driver while the app keeps running. The project includes the emulator application, supporting libraries, front-end tools, configuration logic, and controller mapping features. It can help users map buttons, triggers, sticks, POV inputs, and wheel controls to the layout expected by games. x360ce is useful for players who want broader controller compatibility without replacing their existing hardware.

This was the only way I found to use my old gamepad (thrustmaster dual analog 2) with games that require xinput. I have used x360ce.App-2.1.2.190 succesfully in windows, in linux with wine 4.0, and even with some unity game (even when the compatibility list says they are not compatible). I must say that more recent versions of x360ce (from github site) did not work for me (I tested 3.2.9.81 and 4.8.0.14). The games I tested (gauntlet, forced slightly better, realms of ancient war, victor vran) did not recognize my gamepad, while this old v2.1.2.190 woked perfectly.
