VUU-DO stands for Veteran Unix User-do.
Vuu-do is powered by Devuan with a whole lotta Fsmithred/Refracta magic and Miyolinux soul.
Use the "Files" link above to select a version to download.
Features
- Based on Devuan, Vuu-do uses sysvinit in all versions. More info available in the wiki and blog.
- Lightweight, 425 mb for the mini, 678 mb for the max in Vuu-do 1, Vuu-do 5 mini is 651 mb and max is 958 mb. The versions compressed with zstd are about 10% larger, but offer faster decompression and response in live sessions and during installs.
- Openbox versions utilize obmenu-generator for a dynamic menu.
- Originally re-spun from Miyolinux, MIYO stands for "make it your own"!
- Minimal versions have infrastructure and utilities only, no browser or major programs.
- Vuu-do is not a distro per se`, and greenjeans is not a developer by trade. Just a veteran Unix user who decided to build his own operating systems some 15 years ago, and was encouraged to share them with others.
- Vuu-do 1 is the archived stable branch of Devuan 1 (jessie), Vuu-do 5 is current Devuan 5 (daedalus).
- The Devuan-mate-mini is simply a liveDVD version of mainstream Devuan 5 with the Mate desktop.
- Vuu-do is built with Refracta-Snapshot and Refracta Installer, and includes them in the system so you can re-master your own livecd or just make an installable backup when needed, Refracta2usb is also included for creating your own liveUSB on Vuu-do 1, Vuu-do 5 uses Mintstick to do the same.
- Maximal versions include Firefox or Chromium, VLC, Exaile, GIMP, Inkscape, Handbrake, Transmission, Asunder, XFburn or Brasero , Hexchat, Winff, a couple of Libreoffice programs (Calc for spreadsheets, Writer for .pdf's, .doc's, .rtf's etc.), some games, and some additional firmware and utilities.
- Printer and scanner support included, Cups and Xsane scanner frontend, the 1.09 maximal also includes system-config-printer and all drivers available in the archive repo. The 5.03 ob-max also includes system-config-printer, and all drivers as well.
- IMPORTANT: All doc files, help, info, and tutorials have been eliminated in Vuu-do to make for a smaller and faster iso, if you need these things for a specific program, you need only open Synaptic and re-install the program, and that will return functionality of the help options. The man pages are all still onboard, that's what I use for info and help.
- Extra firmware onboard insures that most systems are supported out-of-the-box.
- File-manager enhanced with custom right-click options, "open as root" , "open in terminal" and "edit as root" for convenience.
- Custom keyboard shortcuts added for convenience and listed in the conky display for easy reference.
- Current images all non-uefi enabled, efi-versions are being worked on now.
- More right-click options added to Openbox, resize or rotate images within file manager, set as wallpaper and more.
- Read release notes for more detailed info.
