Volkswagen is a satirical Node.js package that deliberately interferes with automated tests when it detects a continuous integration environment. It was inspired by Volkswagen's emissions-testing scandal and applies the same “defeat device” idea to software testing. Once required by a project, it detects CI environments and alters failing test behavior so builds appear successful. It recognizes services such as Travis CI, CircleCI, Jenkins, GitLab CI, AppVeyor, Buildkite, and other systems exposing common CI variables. The package can affect tests that fail through thrown errors or nonzero exit codes. It works with testing libraries including assert, tap, tape, and Chai. The project is a programming joke and demonstration rather than a legitimate testing practice.

Features

  • Automatic CI environment detection
  • Forced passing test behavior
  • Support for major CI platforms
  • Compatibility with multiple Node.js test libraries
  • Simple require-based activation
  • MIT-licensed satirical implementation
