VisualFigaro was developed as a plugin for the opensource text editor Jedit (in Java). To use VisualFigaro, you must first install JAVA (version 1.6 or more). From version 2.0, VisualFigaro allows to build, not only knowledge bases, but also system descriptions (called "models" in the menus) written in Figaro language, and launch various processings on these models: interactive debugger (Fig0debug), Figseq, YAMS, fault-tree generation (the generated fault trees are XML files). Therefore it becomes possible to develop and process Figaro models without any graphical representation. This can be a useful step before the development of a full fledged knowledge base for KB3. First use of VisualFigaro: After unzipping the "Jedit vx.y + VisualFigaro vz.t Portable.zip" file, launch Jedit and use the "Plugins" menu to launch the VisualFigaro plugin. Click on the small black triangle in the VisualFigaro window and choose the option "dock left". Then you can open one of the sample knowledge bases by the menu item "Open KB" of the VisualFigaro plugin. These sample knowledge bases, in English and in French, are in the directory whose relative path from the directory containing Jedit.exe is: .\VisualFigaro\Tests\Sample knowledge bases for KB3 There may be interferences between Visual Figaro and a previous installation of Jedit. In case of bad functioning, delete the entire directory containing settings of Jedit. It is the C:\Documents and Settings\username\.jedit directory. Independently from Visual Figaro, you will have to use (for the edition of icons): - Designer : edition of vector icons of KB3 (files with extension .sym). Designer is systematically installed by the installer of KB3. - AWIcons lite (or some other icon editor) : edition of files with extension .ico And of course you will need KB3 to load and test your knowledge bases. The demo version of KB3 is functionally complete, it is only limited in size of the systems that can be modeled.
