4.Changes
1 . Virtual Linux is a Mandrake 8.0 modified for cdboot, can be run whith or without harddrive.
My previous release was my first public one, and had some problems that have shown up one after another.
Even with these flaws , it has been a success much over my expectations, last time i checked, it had been downloaded more than 17000 times !
I have therefore developed a new better release , this time based on Mandrake 8
whith almost increadible 1.5 gig's of software included , this thanks to cloop compression .
I have not been able to test it on more than 20 different hardware configurations, but it has worked on everything Mandrake 8 seems to handle. Some configurations are more difficult than others , such as Dell inspiron and latitude machines , i had to boot in textmode and then startx manually , tere is something with kdmthat fucks up, well i cant do so much about it for now, and it does work with very small intervention's from user .
2 . Same GPL as mandrake comes with .
3 .
Cloop compression gives >1.5 gigs software .!
Kudzu works !
Auto resizing Ramdisk up to 60 megs, more with some boot config .
Better save settings routine, now able to save on any windows partition.
Updateable ! user's can download bugfixes and install !
Still works with 64 megs of ram !
Easy hardware setup with Kudzu !
Script that enables user to change VL to do what ever, and make a new cd easily !!!!!!
200 % Faster Boot and Application start !
4 . Many hundreds of hours spent trying to fixup speedup, and messup :)
I have left the 2.2 kernel world, and had to rewrite all boot scripts, init capturing, add pivot root, busybox, ramfilesys and so on so forth , i hope that you guys will find it useful aas you did last time !
HOWTO ?
Burn the iso, boot from it, choose configure mode, answer all questions from Kudzu with 'configure' exept the
'MERGE EXISTING NETWORK CONFIGURATION' you have to answer no here, due to a mysterious bug.
I have serched the source code for kudzu, and not found anything obvius that could create this problem, so i have to leave it
for now.If any of you Linux Nerds have any idea what happens, mail me !!!!
Further, if you reboot after kudzu have done its magic, all settings will be saved and applied at next boot.
Choose 2.Normal RUN , Or if you encounter problems with X use 3 Normal without X, login as root, type Xfdrake to reconfigure
x settings or retry manually whith 'startx'.
KDM login manager seems abit unreliable with some confgiurationss .
Then, to change ipadress and so on open Mandrake Configuration Utility and try the Network config there, it works splendid !
Same with mouse settings, if you have a scroll mouse, choose the generic scroll mouse and logout, restart x server and login again
to apply changes.
Kudzu seems to fail the mouse config sometimes so you might have to use Mandrake C..... as above to get the wheel to work .
Ehh,mmm , well have a nice day, i cant be responsible for any mishaps, as you are at the wheel :))
