User-union is a set of programs for POSIX/Unix/Linux systems that lets you have "union mounts" without special privilege. The result: change requests in one directory are actually performed in a separate parallel directory instead.

Features

  • Lets you redirect reads and writes for all unprivileged programs
  • Does not require root privilege
  • Works on most Linux/Unix systems (because it is implemented using LD_PRELOAD)
  • Ideal for installing or packaging programs that do not honor DESTDIR
