This version lets you share a game's fonts and images in one file, a .ugtpack, and open one right from the game. Replacement fonts now look like the game's own — shadows and outlines at the right size, custom font files on every kind of text — and UGT Mod works on Linux and SteamOS, native games and games run through Proton alike.
Fonts and images, shared in one file
New features
- Open asset packs in the game. Translation Tools has a new Asset Packs card: pick a
.ugtpackfrom the packs folder, see what it would add (new files, files already here, replacements you choose to accept), then Apply. A pack made for another game or another language says so before you apply it. - Export a pack from the game. The Tools tab can export this game's fonts and images as a
.ugtpack, ready to share. Each export gets a dated name, so one you already shared is never overwritten, and the result is shown next to the Export button. - Fonts, images and packs folders are prepared when UGT Mod starts, and the Asset Packs card opens its folder for you.
Fonts that look right
Enhancements
- Custom font files work on every kind of text. A font placed in the mod's
fontsfolder can now replace older UI text too, not only TextMeshPro text. (Native Linux and macOS games: written, not tested yet.) - No freeze while a custom font is prepared. Preparing a large font used to stop the game until it was done. It now happens in the background, and the corner notification shows its progress.
- Progress bars for font preparation, the AI queue and the variable scan, instead of counts to read.
Bug fixes
- Shadows and outlines of a replaced font match the game's. They could be drawn too far or too thick, most visibly on fonts the game shows at a large scale.
- A game font chosen as a fallback is really used. Until the game had loaded that font, the text was drawn with a stand-in system font (often Arial), and the real font was then shown as "incompatible". The text now keeps its original font until the game font is loaded, then switches to it.
- A font marked Game, Custom or System is taken from that place only, never from a font with a similar name elsewhere.
- Highlighting a font no longer leaves the screen grey. Text that appeared while a font was highlighted (a new screen, for example) kept the dimmed colour after the highlight was turned off.
Linux and SteamOS
Enhancements
- Tested on Linux, with native games and Windows games run through Proton. UGT Manager now sets both up with nothing to type into Steam.
- New default key to open UGT Mod: Shift+F10. Ctrl+F10 is taken by KDE Plasma (SteamOS Desktop Mode, Bazzite), so the game never received it. Shift+F10 is free on Windows, KDE and GNOME. If you already chose a key, you keep it.
- Steam Deck in Game Mode has no keyboard: bind Shift+F10 to a back button in the game's controller settings in Steam. The README explains how.
