UGT Manager now runs on Linux and SteamOS as an AppImage, and sets up native games and games run through Proton with nothing to type into Steam. It also brings fonts and images into your games: drop files or open a .ugtpack with a double-click, and the list no longer freezes when the Manager starts.
Linux and SteamOS
New features
- An AppImage for Linux. One file that runs on SteamOS (Desktop Mode), Bazzite and other distributions: allow it to run as a program, then open it. It offers to install itself, with a menu entry, a desktop icon and an uninstaller.
- Native Linux games start with UGT Mod, from any launcher. UGT Manager puts a small start file in place of the game's executable, so Steam or any other launcher starts the game through the mod loader. If a game update puts the original back, the game's page says so and Update sets it up again. Uninstalling gives the game its own executable back.
- Windows games through Proton need no launch option. UGT Manager writes the setting the mod loader needs into the game's own Proton folder. Start the game once before installing, so that Steam creates that folder; otherwise UGT Manager shows the launch option to use.
- Games from Heroic, Lutris or Bottles get the exact setting to add in that launcher.
- Each game shows how it runs: a Linux or Windows mark beside its name in the list, and "Runs with" on its page (native, Proton or Wine). Native Linux games show their icon.
Bug fixes
- API keys given to a Windows game running through Wine or Proton are kept. UGT Mod could not read them there and cleared them.
- Games found through several paths to the same Steam folder are listed once.
- Free space is read on the drive that holds the game (it read 0 MB on SteamOS and Bazzite, refusing every pack).
Fonts and images
New features
- The Assets tab. Drop fonts, images or a
.ugtpackon a game: the tab lists what would arrive, what would replace a file already there (only if you tick it) and what was left out, with the reason. Apply writes it, and the one-click carries it out too. - Open a
.ugtpackby double-clicking it, on Windows and Linux. Packs get their own icon; the Manager opens on the game the pack was made for, or lets you pick it, and a pack opened while the window is up goes to that window. Associate in Settings sets this up again if another program took over the file type. - Export a pack from the Assets tab with the fonts and images a translation uses, including the system fonts it names, only if you ask.
Enhancements
- Packs are checked before anything is written. A file whose content does not match its name, or whose checksum does not match the pack, refuses the pack; nothing is read beyond the drive's free space.
Smoother and safer
Enhancements
- No more frozen list when the Manager starts. A network check ran once per game on every redraw, up to twelve seconds on a large library.
- Nothing is written into a running game. Every button that would write into the game is greyed while it runs, since UGT Mod would overwrite the change when it next saves.
- Play shows the game as starting at once, until it appears, instead of offering Play again while a store launches it.
- Updates go to the installed copy. Opening a downloaded copy on a computer where UGT Manager is installed updated the downloaded file, and left the menu and the shortcut on the old version. Settings also offers Open installed copy.
- Restart now after an update. An update applied from Settings asked you to restart UGT Manager and gave nothing to press. Open installed copy could also close the window without opening the other one.
- GitHub's hourly limit is named, with the time it lifts, instead of advice about firewalls and proxies.
- New default in-game key: Shift+F10, in Mod defaults too (Ctrl+F10 is taken by KDE Plasma).
Your settings and translations
Bug fixes
- Captures only is kept. Setting a game to Captures only in its own settings came back as "Community translations only" after Apply, and the one-click saw nothing to do.
- A game that only collected text says so. It read "Unpublished changes · 1,286 lines" and "1286 French lines not published" for a file with no translated line; it now reads "Nothing translated yet · 1,286 lines to translate".
- Mod defaults can be accepted as it is. With nothing changed, its window closed without recording that you had reviewed it, and the one-click stayed greyed. It now offers Apply (1).
- Your own contribution (branch) can be chosen, applied and dropped from a game's page.
- Choosing a different translation in the list ticks the one-click box, instead of asking a second time.
AI model test
Enhancements
- Models are tested through the exact path the game uses, markup and line breaks included. A perfect answer could fail before.
