*Welcome to Ultramarker. Now for Windows (and experimental version for Linux) To install Ultramarker in Windows (see Linux and Mac below) Pre-requisites: ensure that you have at least version 4 of the .NET framework installed. It currently uses version 4.8 and it is best to download and install .Net 4.8 runtime before installing Ultramarker - you can find this at: https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet-framework/net48 Note: if you have an old version of Ultramarker installed using publish.zip then you are advised to uninstall it first before proceeding. Installation (Windows): If you want to install Ultramarker for the first time along with the example files download "UltramarkerSetupDemo.exe", but if you want to re-install it or install without the example files then download and run "UltramarkerSetup.exe" (the example files can be downloaded separately and can be typically installed in the C:\Ultramarker\Examples folder) These instructions relate to the demo installer with the examples included - copied into a C:\Ultramarker\Examples folder): You can install Ultramarker with an educationally based example grading schema, module and assessment rubric already populated: download and run "UltramarkerSetupDemo.exe", following the installation instructions. Running and configuring: 1) run Ultramarker 2) You will be prompted for a folder to store your files (the default will be "C:\Ultramarker" - if using the demo files then you will need to ensure that you select this folder if prompted Note: - you can always change it later once you are familiar with the app (eg. to a cloud drive - see below). Using the example files: The example files are in the C:\Ultramarker\Example folder 2) close Ultramarker and change to the C:\Ultramarker\Example folder and copy the file "ultramarker.cfg" to the C:\Ultramarker folder 3) When you restart Ultramarker the sample files will now be loaded. Running Ultramarker without Installation: You don't necessarily need to install Ultramarker to run it. Download the UltraMarker.exe file and copy it to a folder where you want to run Ultramarker (eg. recommended to copy it into an "UltramarkerExe" folder on the C: drive or even a cloud based drive). In that folder just run UltraMarker.exe. Note: you will need the .NET framework 4.8 installed in order to run it in this way. To install Help: 1) unzip helpfiles to the c:\Ultramarker directory (You should have a C:\ultramarker\helpfiles directory with 5 rtf help files in it) Demofiles are provided for the sample case study used in the Youtube video - if you use the installer with the demo files it should also install help too. 2) You can also unzip demofiles.zip into the same folder Using Ultramarker on a Cloud based Drive: Your working directory can also be a cloud based directory such as Google Drive or Microsoft One Drive - just create a directory called Ultramarker (or whatever you like!) on your favourite cloud drive and you can access Ultramarker data from there. You can access the cloud drive by drive letter. To configure Ultramarker to use the new drive - select Setting and Default Dir from the "Unit" tab. To Update Ultramarker If you have already installed Ultramarker and have customised it for your use you probably don't need the sample files - otherwise it will overwrite any changes that you have made. In this case to update Ultramarker download and run "UltramarkerUpdate.exe" Using Ultramarker: It is best to configure information for your unit or module of study or other system to be assessed first: 1) Do this in the "Unit" tab - the essential information to get started is: * Institution name * Unit title (eg. Unit 001) * Unit code (eg. unit001) * Unit folder (where you will store files for the unit, eg. C:\Ultramarker\unit001) * Student marks folder (where you will store assessment marks, eg. C:\Ultramarker\unit001\Marks) The rest can be configured as needed. You need a grading schema - what grades will you allocate to the assessed work or items? 2) To do this go to the "Grades" tab (you can load a sample grading schema from a file called testgrades.gra). For each grade in your schema you will need to give it a name (eg. A+) a percentage equvalent and a lower and upper percentage boundary (to define the bounds of the grade for calculation purposes). 3) Learning or other outcomes are important and you can add them from the "Outcomes" tab. However they are not essential to get started, but you can load a sample test.lo file provided. The most important tab is the "Assess" tab: Here you configure assessments (in the form of criteria), mark students and generate reports. Ther are three modes, operated from a button in the Assessments form: * Edit criteria mode * Generate Assessment mode * Marking mode 1) to configure your first assessment you need to be in Edit mode. 2) You can load a demo file, test.cri, from the File menu However when configuring a new assessment (from the File menu) as a minimum you will need to: * Add a detailed description (eg. instructions for students) * Add at least one criteria * Weight each criteria (so that the total adds up to 100%) * Provide a full description of each criteria requirements * Then for each grade in your grading schema (in the Grade box) provided a criteria to achieve each grade Note: it is useful to cut and paste this from an existing assessment brief document, but more advanced users can use Ultramarker to assist in generating their own brief. 3) Once you have entered your assessment criteria you must save your assessment under a suitable filename from the File menu so that you can use it later. To mark a student go into Marking Mode. 1) Enter a (student) name and click the Start marking button 2) Select a grade that matches the standard of the work and double click the appropriate grade in the Grades list until you see the grade appears as "grade selected for this criteria" 3) Add comments as needed for each criteria and also general comments for the whole assessment. 4) Click Save to save the assessment mark and display the mark. 5) You can generate an RTF format report by selecting the Report button. Note: the Gen Assess Mode button is for more advanced users at this stage. Running Ultramarker in Cyber/Network Security Assessment mode. Originally designed for educational assessment the same principles can be used to assess security compliance or indeed to assess any system according to criteria or standards. To switch to this mode run Ultramarker with the command line option "-s", eg. Ultramarker -s Using Speech Recognition Comments can be entred for each criteria by using Windows Speech Recogntion. 1) Start Ultramarker 2) Open Windows Speech Recognition (you should train it to recognise your voice first) 3) when assessing student work or other form of assessment select the Comments tab adjacent to criterion (or the specific feeback optiona the bottom of the screen) and start speech recogntion. 4) Speak your thoughts into the microphine and pause recogntion once finished. 5) Save your comments. See more information on each tab on the help pages below. Ultramarker Installation for Linux: Note: Ultramarker has been primarily designed for use in Windows, but it in the process of being tested in Ubuntu Linux using the Mono project. This is a work in progress and the result is in experimental form at present: 1) Download Ultramarker.exe from the Linux folder under the Files tab on Sourceforge. 2) Download the Ultramarker.zip file from the Linux folder too. 3) Install Mono in Ubuntu as follows: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get install mono-complete 4) Then copy UltraMarker.exe to a suitable location on your Linux computer - this may be your home folder for example (eg. /home/myname) - note we will use "myname" to refer to your user name from here on - you will need to change this reference to your own username. 5) In this folder run chmod ug+x *.exe (to set the correct permissions to run Ultramarker) 6) If using the Example files unzip the contents of Ultramarker.zip into your home folder - a folder called ultramarker will be created, eg. /home/myname/ultramarker and the example files copied into there (in a folder caled /home/myname/ultramarker/Example). 7) start ultramaker with ./Ultra*.exe and make the /home/myname/ultramarker folder as the Ultramarker working folder. 8) Close ultramarker 9) To easily setup the example files - copy ultramarker.cfg from the /home/myname/ultramaker/Example folder into the /home/myname/ultramarker folder. 10) Run Ultramarker.exe again 11) You will need to edit the Unit Configuration so that any refence to /home/workuser is changed to /home/myname (or whatever your user name is). 12) You can now go the Assess tab to play with the default assessment. (use the -s option to run Ultramarker in Cyber/Network Security Assessment mode) Note: if you get an error message "Failed to load module canberra-gtk-module" then install the module as follows: sudo apt-get install libcanberra-gtk-module ...then run Ultramarker again. Mac Install (these instructions have not been tested): 1) Download the latest Mono release for Mac from: https://www.mono-project.com/download/stable/#download-mac 2) Then run the .pkg file and accept the terms of the license 3) Follow the instructions for setting up Ultramarker as per Linux Linux and Mac support is still a work in progress. If you are running the latest version in Linux we would be glad for your feedback.
