TrimBoot

TrimBoot is a startup-entry and context-menu manager for Windows 10 and 11. It provides a central view of automatic launch points, controls for unwanted entries, and records of important changes.

• Supports blacklist, whitelist, and defense rules based on conditions such as path, hash, and publisher.

Monitor entries that return or become enabled again

• Combines system-event monitoring with periodic safety-net scans to detect additions, removals, and state changes.
• Can attempt to disable applicable entries again when another program re-enables them, depending on Settings.
• Can automatically block entries that match enabled defense rules.
• Records important operations and errors while omitting low-value activity for actions that already provide immediate feedback.

Manage and create context-menu commands

• Organizes traditional Shell commands by file, folder, directory background, desktop background, drive, and other categories.
• Enables, disables, removes, and locates supported entries; AppX and packaged-app entries are handled consistently at package level.
• Creates traditional single-level context-menu commands with a selected program, menu label, and optional arguments.
• Uses the target program's icon automatically and can optionally pass the selected file, folder, or location to the program.

Block records and recovery

• Stores block records for operations that have sufficient backup or recovery information.
• Provides a recovery list for supported startup and context-menu entries.
• Recovery depends on the entry type, completeness of the original data, and current permissions. Not every change can be reversed.

Suggested workflow

1. Install and start TrimBoot. Administrator privileges are required for system-level registry entries, services, and drivers.
2. After the first scan, review the path, publisher, and signature before changing an entry.
3. For uncertain entries, disable and observe them before considering removal.
4. Check status indicators, activity records, or block records after making a change.
5. Use narrowly scoped defense rules for long-term control and avoid overly broad matching conditions.

Requirements and installation

• Windows 10 or Windows 11 x64.
• The official installer contains a self-contained build, so a separate .NET runtime is normally not required.

Configuration, database, and log files are stored by default in:

General options, scan scope, monitoring behavior, and local data can be managed in Settings.

Limitations and safety

Startup entries, scheduled tasks, services, drivers, and some context-menu commands may belong to Windows, hardware drivers, security software, or backup tools. Incorrectly disabling or removing them—or using an overly broad automatic blocking rule—can cause sign-in failures, missing features, unavailable hardware, and, in rare cases, startup or recovery problems.

TrimBoot provides system-entry safeguards, block records, backups, and recovery features, but it cannot guarantee that every operation can be fully reversed on every PC. Check an entry's purpose and dependencies before changing it. For unfamiliar system-level entries, consult vendor documentation or reliable technical references first.

Rights to those projects remain with their authors, and their code must be used, modified, or redistributed under the applicable licenses.
