****** Aspect Ratio TAPs for the Topfield TF5800 PVR ******

Both of these TAPs perform better if the "[Af]" or "AFD_Disable" patch
is added to the firmware. See that page for instructions as to how to
do this.

Get it from http://www.toppy.org.uk/~r2-d2/patches.html#Af

The [Af] patch works independently of the TAPs, but together they
provide a better solution.

***** TAP for Dumb Widescreen TVs *****

I have one of those Widescreen TVs that is either unable or unwilling
to do Widescreen-switching in response to Pin 8 of the SCART
connector. It can only be switched between 4:3 and 16:9 modes by going
into the menus.
I wrote this TAP to let the topfield do the pillarboxing in 4:3 mode instead.

*** Usage: ***

Just download the dumbwidescreentv.tap file, and put put into your
"Auto Start" folder. If it detects a 4:3 picture, it squeezes it
sideways so it has the correct aspect ratio on a widescreen TV.

The '0' button will temporarily disable/enable the TAP. I chose this
button since its normal function is of limited use with a widescreen
TV. '0' followed by 'EXIT' will cause the TAP to unload.

'0' following another digit, or while in a menu, will behave normally,
so you can still get channels 10, 20, 30 etc.

There is an on-screen menu for changing the 'squeeze factor', you will
need TSRCommander or TAPCommander to use this.

*** Problems: ***

    * This version works fully for firmwares up to 5.13.65, should
also work with 14.02/6/7/8, some functionality for other
      firmwares.

    * It does not work on BBC channels, because of a bug in
TAP_Channel_Scale. In this case you must either set the TV
manually, or else install the_" [Af]"_patch described above.

    * Squeezing the picture makes the overscan area at the side of the
frame appear on screen, which it would not normally do. So the
picture may still appear wider than it should.

    * Sometimes the toppy tries to force the picture back to its
default shape, usually a few seconds after switching to a
channel that has MHEG on it. So you will see toppy and TAP
      fighting over the aspect ratio.

***** Deepletterbox TAP for 4:3 TVs. *****

If you are watching a widescreen (16:9) program on a 4:3 TV, then you
normally only have a choice of two formats, depending on the AFD
value.

This TAP gives you the option of 3:
   1. 4:3 Center Cut-out
   2. 14:9 Compromise
   3. 16:9 Deep Letterbox

Change between them by using the '0' button. As with the other one,
you can unload the TAP by '0' followed by 'EXIT'.

Now has menu for calibrating the 'shrink factor' and setting the
default mode, you will need the TSRCommander or TAPCommander TAPs to
get at this.

*** Problems: ***
    * This version works fully for firmwares up to 5.13.65, should
also work with 14.02/6/7/8, some functionality for other
      firmwares.

    * If the AFD value is 10 (normally found on Channel 4), then the
Toppy insists on Deep letterboxing and the TAP will not work
unless you also install the "Af"_Patch described above to
      suppress the Toppy's AFD handling.

    * Sometimes it loses track of the AFD state and you see an
over-shrunk picture. You can fix this by pressing '0' a few
times, or by changing channels back and forth, or by bringing up
and closing one of the system menus.

    * Like the other TAP, this one will fight with the firmware over
      the aspect ratio.
