Terminay v5.0.0 marks a major architectural shift toward a unified server model with multi-connection workspaces and server-hosted language intelligence.

Architecture & Server Model

Single Server Type, Many Connections

  • Removed project environments as a first-class concept; all projects now execute on a single server instance per workspace
  • Unified the server architecture to eliminate environment-specific routing and complexity
  • Enabled workspaces to connect to multiple servers simultaneously, with each connection hosting its own set of projects
  • Redesigned the connection menu and tab system to surface server identity and allow seamless switching between connections

Protocol & Compatibility

  • Updated workspace snapshot schema to version 5 with support for five built-in extensions
  • Implemented protocol compatibility layer to handle version negotiation between clients and servers
  • Added connections host capability to advertise multi-server support during handshake

Language Intelligence & Extensions

Server-Hosted Language Services

  • Moved language intelligence from client-side Monaco language services to server-hosted language-server extensions
  • Implemented language session runtime to manage language server lifecycle and protocol communication
  • Added TypeScript language extension as the first server-hosted language provider
  • Removed client-side language service shipping; file viewer now requests language features from the server

Extension Platform Updates

  • Refactored extension child process management to support language server extensions alongside agent extensions
  • Updated built-in extension set to include the new TypeScript language server
  • Removed Cursor agent support from built-ins
  • Improved extension observation routing to handle cross-server agent status updates

Desktop & UI Changes

Multi-Connection Workspace UI

  • Redesigned workspace to display projects grouped by server connection
  • Added connections control panel for managing active server connections
  • Updated tab overflow and switcher logic to handle cross-server project tabs
  • Implemented connection-aware agent status badges across the workspace

Desktop Application Behavior

  • Fixed desktop startup to open existing data roots instead of refusing to start
  • Improved window registry and instance identity tracking for multi-connection scenarios
  • Enhanced server bundle host to manage multiple concurrent server connections
  • Updated preload and IPC contracts to support connection-scoped operations

Testing & Verification

E2E & Conformance

  • Added language server extension conformance tests
  • Verified multi-server workspace behavior with new cross-server row and tab composition tests
  • Updated terminal and project tests to work with the unified server model
  • Removed project environment-specific e2e tests
