✨ Features

🤖 AI Agents in the Live Session (new in 13.3)

For the first time, an agentic AI is natively built into the Live session, ready to work on the real running system — disks, filesystems, services, logs — with nothing to install or configure.

• Claude Code, Claude desktop app, Codex (CLI), ChatGPT desktop app - preinstalled and ready to sign in, on both MATE and GNOME.
• Real recovery power - boot the Live image, describe the problem in plain language, and the agent explores the system and proposes (or, if authorized, executes) the fix: chroot, GRUB reinstall, btrfs subvolume repair, log inspection. Validated end-to-end on a real broken-GRUB multi-boot recovery.
• terminal-system - two-panel terminal: natural-language instructions on the right, AI-generated shell commands typed and executed in real time on the left. Manual confirmation by default; :auto mode runs only allowlisted read-only commands, with no shell metacharacters allowed through.
• terminal-router - records tmux sessions of router/switch CLI work (Cisco, Huawei and similar) so Claude Code can follow network device troubleshooting in real time.

Both tools have dedicated entries in the MATE and GNOME Applications menus.

🦋 btrfs, Snapshots & Recovery (since 13.2)

The headline of 13.2: storage, backups, recovery, and boot rebuilt around btrfs.

• btrfs by default - New installations use btrfs with the standard @ (root) and @home subvolumes, configured automatically by Calamares. No manual setup.
• Snapper preconfigured - A clean baseline snapshot is created at the end of installation; apt install/upgrade/remove operations create pre/post snapshot pairs; boot snapshots and a daily/weekly/monthly timeline run automatically. Zero configuration.
• GRUB snapshot menu - Thanks to grub-btrfs, a "SysLinuxOS — snapshots" submenu appears in the boot menu and updates on every update-grub. Boot any snapshot in read-only recovery mode.
• syslinuxos-rollback - Custom one-command full rollback: the old @ is renamed to a timestamped backup, a new RW @ is created from the chosen snapshot, history preserved.
• Multiple installs visible in GRUB - A custom, os-prober-independent solution lists snapshots and kernels from all SysLinuxOS installs on the same disk (fixes the long-standing btrfs/os-prober Debian bug).
• Versioned external backups - distroclone-backup turns backups to a btrfs destination into a snapper snapshot chain (full baseline + incrementals), with classic rsync fallback for ext4/xfs.

Backed by independently versioned .deb packages, all in the official signed APT repository (suite tirreno):

Nine packages available today: distroclone, distroclone-backup, syslinuxos-snapshots, grub-btrfs, syslinuxos-ring-conky, conky-window, librepods, terminal-system, terminal-router. From here on, keeping SysLinuxOS tools up to date is a plain apt upgrade.

Live USB Creation

1. Download the SysLinuxOS ISO
2. Use Balena Etcher, Rufus, or dd to create a bootable USB
3. Boot from USB and enjoy the live environment

Permanent Installation

1. Boot from the live USB
2. Launch the Calamares Installer from the desktop
3. Follow the installation wizard
4. Reboot and enjoy your installed system
