SpeakoFlow 2.1.0

Hands-free dictation, Hold or Tap for each shortcut, and spaces between your dictations that put themselves in. Plus Amazon Transcribe, meeting notes in the meeting's own language, and local dictation that no longer stalls when your computer is busy.

On 2.0.0 or 2.0.1? SpeakoFlow offers this update by itself, or you can check in Settings, About. On 1.4 or earlier? Download 2.1.0 below and install it over your current version. Your settings, history, and models are kept.

New

  • Hands-free dictation. While you hold the dictation keys, press Space and let go. It keeps listening until you press the dictation keys again, click ✓ on the pill, or press Esc. You can pick another key, or turn it off, under Hands-free in Settings, Shortcuts. On Linux, turn off Hold to talk instead.
  • Hold or Tap for each shortcut. Dictation and the assistant now have separate switches (Hold to talk, Hold to ask), so you can hold to dictate and tap to ask. Your current choice carries over.
  • Smart spacing, on for everyone. Two dictations into the same field no longer run together. A space goes in only where one is needed, a continued sentence starts lowercase, and the period SpeakoFlow added when you paused mid-sentence comes back out. Password fields and terminals are never read. To get the old paste back, turn it off in Settings, Dictation, Typing and pasting.
  • Amazon Transcribe for cloud speech-to-text, streaming as you speak.
  • A second set of keys for any shortcut. Click a shortcut's keys, then Add another.
  • Mouse buttons as shortcuts (experimental). The middle, Back and Forward buttons can start dictation or the assistant. Switch it on in Settings, Advanced, Experimental.
  • Stop after silence. A tapped or hands-free dictation can end itself once you stop talking. It's off by default and lives in Settings, Shortcuts.
  • Skip cleanup for short dictations. Pick a length, and any dictation shorter than that is pasted as you said it, without waiting for AI cleanup. It starts at 15 words. Set your own length, or turn it off, on the AI cleanup page.
  • Meetings. Notes can be switched off. They're written in the meeting's own language, or one you pick. The transcript now has a Copy button.
  • Search depth. Quick, Standard and Deep now change how many searches the assistant runs and how much it reads.
  • Faster updates. From this version on, updates download on 16 connections, about five times faster on a slow link. If that can't work, the update downloads the old way. This update itself still arrives at the old speed.
  • Linux: a white tray icon that matches the rest of the panel. A Color tray icon switch in Settings, General brings back the colour logo.

Fixed

  • Local dictation could sit on "Transcribing…" for 15 seconds or more while the computer was busy. Parakeet Unified also stopped dropping the last word.
  • Web search on Azure GPT-6 stopped working when Thinking was on.
  • Linux AppImage: built-in AI cleanup never started. Thanks to @HananSolves.
  • Meetings stayed on "Processing" with notes off, could show transcript rows twice right after a call, and the notes-language list closed when you scrolled it.
  • A debug log could contain cloud transcription credentials.

Good to know

  • Windows: while you hold Ctrl + Win to dictate, Space now starts hands-free instead of switching your input language. Ctrl + Win + Space works as before the rest of the time.
  • Append trailing space now only applies where Smart spacing can't read the field.
  • AI cleanup on every dictation now skips dictations shorter than 15 words, until you set a different length. The dictate-and-clean-up shortcut always cleans.

Which file do I download

Your computer Download this
Windows SpeakoFlow_2.1.0_x64-setup.exe
Windows, installed by IT or in bulk SpeakoFlow_2.1.0_x64_en-US.msi
Mac with Apple silicon (M1 and newer) SpeakoFlow_2.1.0_aarch64.dmg
Mac with Intel SpeakoFlow_2.1.0_x64.dmg
Linux: Ubuntu, Debian, Mint, Pop!_OS SpeakoFlow_2.1.0_amd64.deb
Linux: any other distribution SpeakoFlow_2.1.0_amd64.AppImage
Linux on ARM: Ubuntu, Debian SpeakoFlow_2.1.0_arm64.deb
Linux on ARM: any other distribution SpeakoFlow_2.1.0_aarch64.AppImage

The other three files are not for you to download. Installed copies of SpeakoFlow fetch them by themselves to update: latest.json tells the app a new version exists, and SpeakoFlow_aarch64.app.tar.gz / SpeakoFlow_x64.app.tar.gz are the update packages for Apple silicon and Intel Macs. Windows: if SmartScreen warns you, choose More info, then Run anyway.
macOS: if it says the app "is damaged", run this once in Terminal (why?):

:::bash
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/SpeakoFlow.app
