Simplify.js is a compact high-performance JavaScript library for reducing the number of points in polylines while preserving their overall shape. It was extracted from Leaflet and is designed for geometry-heavy mapping and visualization workloads. The implementation first uses a fast radial-distance pass unless highest-quality mode is requested. It then applies the Ramer-Douglas-Peucker algorithm for more accurate simplification. A configurable tolerance controls how aggressively points are removed. The library works in browsers, workers, AMD environments, and Node.js with a very small codebase. Ports also exist in several other programming languages.

Features

  • High-performance polyline simplification
  • Ramer-Douglas-Peucker algorithm
  • Radial-distance preprocessing
  • Configurable simplification tolerance
