Thank you for using SimpleFileSorter -------------------INSTALLATION------------------- New User / Not installed: Mostly a pretty standard set up. Just run the SFSSetupV2.0.0.1.exe and follow the installation Old Install: Please un-install your old version of SFS and then run this setup to prevent any problems from occurring. -------------------USE/RUNNING-------------------- This might be a little tricky but it is set up to run normally by default. 1.) Once started you should click the "..." button to select the file you wish to sort. PLEASE NOTE: If you go to a directory in the "Select Folder to Organize" window you will not see any files. That doesn't mean they are not there. this is because this window only selects and sees directories 2. - A - You now have the option to select and change advanced settings: - 'Undo Organization' This setting can not be used until the folder you want to sort has been sorted. After the folder has been sorted a sub-folder should be created in the sorted location name "bk" Once you restart the program and reselect the original folder (NOT THE BK SUBFOLDER) the button should be able to be clicked Once pressed the folder should be returned to it's original state. - 'Delete Empty Folders' This setting will (at the end of the file sorting) will search the directory specified and delete the folders that do not contain any sub-folders or sub-files. Also this has a sub-setting that called 'Only Delete Empty Folders and Do Not Organize' - This setting only goes through and deleted the empty folder and does not organize the directory - 'Log Messages and Errors to Text File' This setting will save all output to a text file located in the directory under a folder named bk (backup). - 'Rename Files to a More Simple Name' This setting when enabled will rename all of the files it is sorting to a more simple name by removing white-spaces, digits, and punctuation. B - You also have the option to select custom sorting options. In this menu it will show all of the extensions of the files in the directory specified these are the folders where the files with the corresponding extensions will be moved to You can select an extension and in the text-field and type what you want the folder to be named to. Finally hit the "Rename Selected item to ..." and the selected item will be updated accordingly i.e. - 1 - Click MP3 2 - Type in 'Music' 3 - Hit "Rename Selected item to ..." 4 - The text will now say MP3 -> Music Finally when you start the process SFS will save your custom settings in the bk folder and when you open up a directory you already sorted you will be able to select the newly enabled "Load the Saved Custom Settings" Button and it will load all the saved settings. 3.) Then click the newly enabled sort button and SFS will do what you have selected. Or by default sort them into directories based from extension -------------------LIST OF ARGUMENTS FOR SHORTCUTS----------------- -H Will display the programs arguments and what they do -------------------CHANGELOG--------------------------------------- 2.0.0.1 - Major updates and new features from 1.0.0.1 - Fixed the file names to be SFS instead of FS - Fixed the layout of the advanced settings menu - added the custom sorting menu - added the new progress bar which updates off of file size to get a better idea as to when the file will be completed - made the window bigger and now center screen on startup - completely removed the startup menu - cleaned up code - fixed the problem where some files (after restoring backup) wouldn't delete. 1.0.0.1 - Minor updates to the version 1.0.0.0 - Updated readme as some information was incorrect/outdated - Fixed the title of the programs GUI to read "Simple File Sorter" rather than "Sorting" - Fixed the -P argument (Print errors to console argument) to also allow the output to be output to logs 1.0.0.0 - Nothing, this is the first version -------------------PLANS------------------------------------------- Current: 1.) Make custom options menu allow for certain extensions to be deleted all together. Completed as of Version 2.0.0.1: 1) My first major plan is to make this program have more customization for where files are sorted. As default files will be sorted by extension however, I want to allow for users to specify where files go directly for example: If a user wants all EXE and MSI files to be in a single folder called "Installs and Executables" for that to be an option 2) This one might take a little bit but I want the progress bar to update by file size rather than completed files -------------------CRASHES\BUGS------------------------------------ Please send any crash information to point.proj@gmail.com If you can recreate the information with logs -L or by selecting the "Log Output and Errors to log file" in the advanced settings menu then please do so. If you can attach those log files to the email that would be greatly appreciated.
