Many researchers these days use some excellent tools to manage the bibliography, however, adoption of these tools is not universal. Furthermore, from the point of view of a proofreader, whether or not bibliographic software was used in creating a publication, it is necessary to check the integrity of citations and references. On occasion, the citations in the text and references at the end of the paper might get out of sync. Some references could be missing; some might be included in the bibliography but not actually cited in the text. Checking all citations and references manually would require a lot of time and effort.
This tool helps you quickly diagnose problems in the bibliography. It still takes a bit of clicking and focused attention, but overall it's much quicker than if you were searching the document in a conventional way.
