Orfeo 1.6.0 — Export to audio, skip empty bars, your own hand colours

31. 10. 2026

  • New: save any song as an MP3 or WAV file: as written, just keys, bass and drums, or exactly as you hear it.
  • New: songs can start right where the music starts, skipping the silent bars at the beginning.
  • New: choose your own left- and right-hand colours. The piano roll and keyboard now always show the same parts (eye, mute and solo work together).
  • Clearer uninstall choices, a tidier velocity editor, and a security update.

Download: Installer (recommended, updates itself) · Portable (no install) · Microsoft Store (updates through the Store, usually within a few days)

Full changelog: 3 new, 7 changed, 5 fixed ### New - **Export to audio** (Settings › Audio, off until you switch it on). Right-click any song in the Library and choose *Export to audio* to save it as a file to listen to anywhere. Pick the version: *Original* (the song as written), *Focus* (keys, bass and drums only) or *As I hear it* (your tempo, key, muted parts, Mixer and loop, for the song you have open). Then pick the sound, Studio or Native, with any of your sound sets. The format is MP3 (320 kbps, 44.1 kHz stereo) or WAV (44.1 kHz, 16-bit stereo, CD quality). Every file starts at the first note, rings out for 2 seconds after the last one and is levelled so it never clips. Files go to the *Exports* folder inside your Library's *Orfeo* folder (or *Music › Orfeo › Exports* if you haven't set a Library) and never overwrite an earlier export. A song that's playing pauses while it exports, and *Cancel* stops an export at any time. - **Skip empty bars at the start** (Settings › Playback, also in Setup). Songs that begin with silent bars open with the music on bar 1: the piano roll, bar numbers, playback, loops and step-through all start where the music starts. *Keep drum count-ins* (on by default) keeps one or two bars of plain drum clicks before the music; switch it off to skip those too. A real drum intro or fill always stays. Your files are never changed: switch it off and every song is exactly as written again, the open one straight away. Edits you save keep the silent bars, and exports start where the music starts. It can't be on together with *Chord Transcription*, whose charts number the bars as the file has them: switching one on switches the other off. - **Hand colours** (Settings › Appearance). Choose the colours for your left and right hand on the piano roll, the keyboard and the split preview. Pick a ready-made pair (*Bright*, *Sky* and *Mint* stay easy to tell apart with colour blindness) or any two colours of your own. A note warns when the two hands look too alike. *Back to Orfeo's colours* restores the defaults. Piano tracks switch to your hand colours straight away, in the open song too. The Hand Assignment card links straight to it. ### Changed - **Focus mode is pure keys.** One click and you hear the keys (pianos, organs, accordions), bass and drums, but only the keys stay on the piano roll and the keyboard. Every other track is muted and hidden. Click again and every track comes back exactly as it was. Stepping with ← / → follows what you see: a hidden track never makes a step or sounds in one. - **Velocity editor without the clutter.** The numbers no longer sit on every bar, where close notes made them overlap. Point at a bar to see its velocity, and the value follows live as you drag it up or down. Select a note on the piano roll and its bar lights up in amber, so in a busy passage you can see which bar is which. - **Clearer choices when uninstalling.** The Yes / No / Cancel box is gone. A page of four clearly named choices takes its place, each saying exactly what it does: *Delete everything*, *Keep my edited files*, *Remove Orfeo, keep my data* (handy before a reinstall) and *Keep everything*, which really cancels the uninstall. All of them leave your Library folder alone. The empty *Choose Components* page is gone too. - **Piano roll and keyboard always agree.** The keys lit while playing, Reflect on keyboard and stepping with ← / → show exactly what's on the piano roll. Switch a track's eye off and it keeps playing along as accompaniment without showing anywhere — hear the saxophone melody without its notes on the keys. Mute a track and it's silent and off the roll; solo one and only that track is heard and shown. Mute and solo no longer switch the eye on or off, so the buttons stay separate. - **Clearer track colours.** Other instruments never start in the piano's colours any more. Each one gets a colour that stands apart from the hands and from the instruments before it. - **Audio at a glance.** The sound engine's details in Setup and Settings › Audio now sit in a small framed display, with a new fourth line: the sound set that's playing (or *Built-in GM*). - **Roomier Playback settings.** Loop region and Focus mode moved to the first column of Settings › Playback, so the whole page fits without scrolling. In the *Skip empty bars* card, *Keep drum count-ins* has a paragraph of its own. ### Fixed - Right-click menus near the bottom of the Library open upwards, so they're never cut off. - The Library remembers where you scrolled, your search and your open folders when you switch to Setup and back, or close and reopen the side panel. - The Chords Explorer's *next inversion* arrow no longer gets its tip cut off. - The MIDI Note Editor keeps its size as you move the mouse over it. Before, it grew and shrank as the hint text below the tools changed between one and two lines. - In the MIDI Note Editor, undoing a change also removes the white outline from the notes it changed. Before, the outline stayed, and right-click couldn't clear it. ### Updated - Electron 44.9.3 → 44.10.0 (security fixes) - electron-updater 6.8.9 → 6.8.11
