octfont Files

To install a deb version of the octfont software, download the deb version
desired to some folder on your local computer.  The three checksums in the
release readme verify your download is error free.  Open a terminal window by
selecting menu->all applications->system tools->terminal.  Go to the location
where you downloaded the deb version of octfont (e.g., Downloads) by
typing "cd Downloads" in the terminal window.  Typing the following installs
octfont on your system:
	sudo gdebi octfont_1.2.0_amd64.deb
where 1.2.0_amd64 is version_arch for the latest version 1.2.0 and amd64 is
for amd64 architecture machines (most pcs although arch is armhf for raspberry
pi machines).  When you do this, you must be logged in as the primary user on
the system and you must enter the primary user login password when prompted
to do so.

Rel_1.2.0 updates the install process with debian policy guidelines for
fonts: remove fonts-oct.dir file, change the name of the fonts-oct.alias
file to octfont.alias, and add xfonts.utils to the control file depends line.

The font, oct, is a traditional X11 bitmapped font that features narrow
vertical spacing contrary to accepted font design styles.  It allows more
lines in a window and is bold for ease in viewing.  The developer has
happily used this font for a number of decades up to and including 4K displays.
