    Thanks Don.

    Would it be possible in future updates that the installer remembers the last personal selections?

    I always have to de-select  the Auto-Updater and some plugins I don't want to install and additionally the "Don't use %appdata%" box is always unchecked.

    Hi.  First of all  I love this editor !  simple, logical and fits like a glove for my work.

    I just tried 5.9.2 on Vista SP2 32bit and got explorer crashes whenever i tried to open context menu on a file.
    When I deinstalled Notepad++ this problem was fixed.  Then installed npp 5.8.4 with the same default settings and problem didn't return.
    Anybody tried the 5.9.2 release with Vista 32bit SP2 ?

    Cheers
    Roy

    Hi Don,

    I'm new in this forum but not using Notepad++. :-) I use it since a long time and I think it's a really powerful editor.

    Unfortunately in the last version (5.9.2) you made a change to the "last opened files list" that makes it really hard to use anymore. In 5.9.1 there was a clear list of files and paths but know I can't read the files anymore. Could you please change this feature back as it was in 5.9.1?

    Thank you very much for your work.

    Sorry Don, but this is one of the worst changes ever! just have a look:

    Whoa! That looks awful indeed! I guess I'll stick to 5.9.

    I'd like to have the (old) longer recent file history entries too.

    Please undo the change, or make the length configurable.

    KR, Ulrich

    PS: I like Notepad++

    Well, if no one like this new feature (shorter recent file history), it will restore to 100 characters in the next version.

    Maybe an option to make MRU list a submenu would satisfy everybody? I mean, as a way to keep File menu neat and to have full paths in MRU list at the same time. At the cost of one extra click/mnemonic of cause - that is why an option.

    TPM - 2011-06-07

    About the MRU list: I was thinking about an option to choose the long list version or the short one, but nofun69 idea is better: in this way the "File" menu is neat and the MRU list has full paths. I agree with nofun69.

    I definitely think, as a user, that making the recent file list a submenu entry of the File menu is the way to go. This way, 100 character long file paths can be shown , but only if user wishes to display the list. With 5.9.1 and earlier, the File menu would cover 40% of the screen width. If made a submenu, it would still do so, but not every time you use the file menu.
    And as mentioned earlier, this is a very old entry on IdeaTorrent.

    There needs to be a way to disable the new clipboard history function. I use ClipX (which works across all applications, including Notepad++), and the new clipboard history function prevents it from working. I will have to stay with 5.9 until I can disable the new clipboard history function.

    Honestly, I see no need for this new clipboard history function. ClipX works across all applications, including Notepad++, so there is no need for it.

    @bblackmoor: Seconded. I use Ditto as clipboard manager. Ditto still works in conjunction with NP++'s clipboard manager but I'd lrather have it disabled, too. There's no need having two things doing the same with a change that they might get in their way.

    Can't help but to agree with two previous comments: I'm totally happy with CLCL for several years now already.
    So maybe a better place for this function is a separate plugin, which could be easily uninstalled.
    (BTW, when Clipboard History crashed Notepad++ it was yet another time for me to feel sorry about session being remembered on exit and not on every tab open/close operation, cause I had about 10 tabs at the moment - now that is a vital feature! Please consider realizing it, Don.)

    Hi Don,

    well I like that shorter recent file history, because to me the poping up file menü covers nearly 95% of NPP++ (and was disappointed that it's not implemented in the ANSI version as well)
    When testing it I was lucky that my file-names are all short enough to be always displayed to the full, so I didn't experience what the screenshots above show.

    I do think it's of advantage to make it a submenu anyway, but I would also like an option to 'display only file-names' as alternativ to fullpaths.
    This way the amount of characters wouldn't need to be predicted/checked but as a result the recent menü could also become suitably sized.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    btw.: the clipboard history still doesn't display more than the very first character in the ANSI version and it may look e.g. like this:
    **a
    d
    =
    <
    h
    a**
    greetings ~ Vera
    I second that. The MultiClipboard plugin does a good job for those who want a clipboard extension inside N++ only and don't use a system-wide one. The new clipboard history duplicates functionality that is already provided in better form by a plugin. The plugin could be made part of the default installation though, since it is something a majority of users is likely to find useful once they know it exists.
    1. The FileHippo version checker has the wrong installer for Notepad 5.9.2 - they actually install 5.9.0, or something from March 11.  I've let them know.  If people complain that the version doesn't update then that's probably the cause.  I got my first try of 5.9.2 from:
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_notepad/.  Usually these guys are quite reliable.
    1A:  The 5.9.1 (or 5.9.0) menu item (? | Update Notepad++) showed no update available when there was one available.  It was the FileHippo scanner that told me a new version of Notepad++ was available (then it gave me the wrong one).
    2. The shorter 32-character MRU list is too short for me.
    3. The clipboard history is redundant for me, as I use Ditto.  But it doesn't interfere with Ditto.  I guess ClipX and Ditto use different mechanisms.
    using Alt+a in S/R dialog, focus moves to file instead of S/R dialog leaving S/R dialog at its position. Everytime i have to click back to activate S/R dialog.
    Hi Don!  Great work with character insertion table!
    But I was so disappointed that it didn't include special characters insertable via hold alt and press numeric keyboard, release.
    like for example: ☺ ☻ ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ • ◘ ○ ♪ ♀ ♫
    It would surely be not much work to add this feature, it would pretty much complete the functionality of the char insertion.
    I also have big problems now because of this:
    "Reduce the recent file history width to 32 characters."
    I am unable now to reopen the right file, which is very annoying.
    So please change this back to the way it was prior to 5.9.2.
    Hi there,
    I just liked to say that I am happy to hear you will change the
    32 char limit for the recent file list. The sub menu idea sounds
    like the one from i.e. OpenOffice, where we find New/Open/Recent
    Documents in the file menu. As there is some setup for the recent
    file menu in npp Settings/Preferences/MISC already, the max item
    length could be configured there. Although I think this is not
    necessary as 100 chars sounds enough for today.
    Thinking about recent files, do you think that "recent paths"
    would be a useful option for the files menu?  Using one of the
    stored paths would open the open file dialog. I know the "Follow
    current document" setting, which is really useful for me, but a
    recent paths menu could sum up the paths you are working in. Idk.
    As a side comment: the tab name "MISC." in the preferences menu
    could be made more consistent.
    Npp is a great piece of software, reliable and functional. The
    plugin interface quadruples its possibilities.
    happy regards,
    fred
    Thinking about recent files, do you think that "recent paths" would be a useful option for the files menu?
    Really nice perhaps original idea - it could catch on. Better than recent files in the way that it would summarise activity. I can think of some room for complicating how the list is sorted - ie weighting/floating directories with multiple files opened and extra for saved files… but maybe that is fussy. The basic idea is great.
