A utility to produce MTF (modulation transfer function, a measure of edge acuity) maps of images. The program will automatically detect dark rectangular objects on light backgrounds, and extract MTF values on all edges. Can help to tune SLR autofocus. See http://mtfmapper.blogspot.com for more usage examples.
Features
- Automatically extracts dark (black) rectangular objects from images, and measures the Modulation Transfer Function (MTF, a measure of image sharpness) across the edges of the rectangles. Measurement is performed using the "slanted edge" method, similar to ISO 12233.
- Using a special test chart (.pdf supplied), measure the point of sharpest focus relative to a reference point, i.e., measure front- or back-focus in DSLRs
- Measure the MTF (sharpness) of your lens across the field of view
- Works with many image formats, including JPEG and various raw formats
- Provides feedback on chart orientation (for some chart types) helping you to correctly set up the chart relative to the camera sensor
- Use the GUI to visualize and compare MTF/SFR curves between different images, or different edges within the same image
