v1.6.8

mrv2 and vmrv2 are open source professional players and review tools for VFX, animation and computer graphics for Windows, Linux and macOS. You can choose to compile from source or get binaries.

If you are unsure what binary to choose, go to:

https://mrv2.sourceforge.io/downloads/mrv2-download-page.html

mrv2 ships now in two compiled versions:

mrv2 with OpenGL backend (free and donationware) vmrv2 with Vulkan backend (free and donationware)

It also ships for many more architectures, so be careful to download the correct one. It has NOT been tested on Windows aarch64 nor Linux aarch64 (beta testers wanted).

Unlocking Features

For unlocking features, once mrv2 loads, you should go to:

Help->Unlock Features.

Licensing works for both mrv2 and vmrv2 (you can have both installed). You need to have an internet connection for the license system.

The donationware version when running without a donation, does not have:

  • Annotations (available from Solo and later)
  • Python (available in Standard and later)
  • Editing (available in Edit and later)
  • Voice and Link Annotations (available in Pro)
  • Internet remote reviews from anywhere on the world (available in Pro+)

They do have, however:

  • Tone-mapping (OpenGL) and HDR (Vulkan)
  • OpenEXR layer switching
  • Saving Images and Movies with Audio

Prices might change (go up or down) depending on competition and new features.

ChangeLog

  • UI: Added tablet support on all platforms. All platforms have minor issues with their support and drivers, but for the most part they work.
  • UI: Vulkan would draw the selection rectangle incorrectly when selecting bottom-right to top-left, while OpenGL backend would do the same in the opposite direction.
  • UI: Fixed laser Annotations which were broken.

  • Web page: Added web page warning and link to Installation instructions when downloading files. This is mainly for macOS users which must work around Apple's horrible GateKeeper security approach.

  • Install: Verified vmrv2 and mrv2 work under latest macOS Silicon.

  • Install: Removed set +e from .rpm and .deb uninstallers as they could leave the uninstallation in an incorrect state if removal was stopped.
  • Install/MacOS: Consolidated README_mrv2.md and README_vmrv2.md under a single README.md.in name with a CMake configure_file() call.
  • Install/MacOS: Translated README.md.in to all languages vmrv2 and mrv2 support.

  • Python/Linux: v1.6.7 incorrectly shipped with broken FLTK Python bindings.

  • Core: Added Fl::check to getVideoInfo and getAudioInfo, mainly to keep GNOME's responsive on Linux when 4K OpenEXRs are read (but may help other platforms too).

  • Core: Fixed random crashes when drawing a shape while playback was running.
  • Core: Fixed potential crashes due to Python's GIL.

  • Build: Consolidated package directory.

  • Build/Linux-aarch: Fixed Vulkan compilation linking an amd64 shaderc library instead of aarch64.
  • Build/MacOS: I think I removed the Gatekeeper warning when opening the .dmg on Apple Silicon.
