WHAT IS MLBLIVE?

mlblive is a customized Debian Wheezy distribution targeted specifically for
mlbviewer users and baseball fans. It includes panel icons for configuring
and launching mlbviewer, and mlb.com and mlbviewer Wiki start pages in
Iceweasel. Additionally, Adobe Flash is preinstalled so all content can be
viewed directly off the mlb.com website.

HOW DO I USE MLBLIVE?

mlblive can be used in three ways:

1. Virtual Machine (RECOMMENDED)

mlblive can be imported as a virtual machine into VirtualBox using the
ImportVirtualBox.sh script:

$ ./ImportVirtualBox.sh

The virtual machine configuration contained in the OVF file requires an
additional 512 MB RAM and a graphics card with hardware acceleration.

Once the appliance has been created, start the "mlblive2014" virtual machine.
For the highest quality viewing experience, in the View menu of VirtualBox,
"Switch to Fullscreen." The mlbviewer applications are on the right side of
the panel including a launcher tray for mlbviewer, mlbclassics, mlbstats; also
launcher icons for editing the configuration file (wrench icon), viewing the
README (help icon), and visiting mlb.com/mlbviewer wiki (world icon.)

2. Live DVD/USB

A large number of additional network adapter firmware packages are packaged
with mlblive to overcome the more restrictive default Debian distribution. Burn
the ISO image to DVD or USB. Use mlblive as a bootable Live DVD/USB
distribution if virtualization is not optimum or not desirable. mlblive as
live USB is also convenient for taking mlbviewer to guest computers where
administrative policies may prevent software installation.

3. Install mlblive to disk (or virtual disk)

DISCLAIMER: This is currently not fully supported. Globally installed software
like mplayer2, mlbhls, and rtmpdump are retained on installation. However,
the customizations to XFCE and the copying of mlbviewer to the home
directory are handled by the debian-live packages which get removed at install
time. A custom post-installation script is needed. If you set up the
installation with an "mlblive" user, you can run the same setup script that
debian-live uses: /lib/live/config/2000-mlblivecd

WHY IS MLBLIVE AS A VIRTUAL MACHINE THE RECOMMENDED USAGE?

mlblive as a virtual machine has the advantage of requiring less disk space. It
doesn't require an additional partition to install an additional OS. Nor does
it replace the primary OS. It also makes the host OS responsible for
driver support which allows mlblive to support hardware that may not otherwise
be supported.

It is not as portable as the Live USB option as VirtualBox must be installed
on the host machine. However, it does not require the host machine to be
booted into the Live USB OS. In this respect, mlblive can be run more like
an application within the host OS rather than an OS of its own.
