makepp-noborder.pngMakepp,\na build program which has a number of features that allow for reliable builds\nand simpler build files, is a drop-in replacement for GNU make. It supports\nalmost all of the syntax that GNU make supports, and can be used with\nmakefiles produced by utilities such as automake. It is called makepp (or\nmake++) because it was designed with special support for C++, which has since\nbeen extended to other languages like Swig or embedded SQL.

\n

2.0 is the current version. The older files with 2.0rc in the name were the\nrelease candidates with some bugs. The files come in groups of four in the\nfollowing formats:

\n
  • .deb This is a ready to use archive for Debian based Linux distros like\n Ubuntu or Mint. Install with " sudo dpkg -i makepp-2.0.deb ".\n
\n
  • .rpm This is a ready to use Red Hat package manager archive also used by\n Linux distros like SuSE. Install with " sudo rpm -i makepp-2.0.rpm ".\n This file has a newer date, because the original upload specified wrong\n dependencies (added by rpmbuild). The new version is identical in content,\n but without this problem.\n
\n
  • .tgz This is a tarball which must first be unpacked with WinZip or\n " gzip -dc makepp-2.0.tgz | tar xf - " or GNU " tar -xzf makepp-2.0.tgz ".\n You can then try out makepp from there or follow the instructions in\n INSTALL.\n
\n
  • .txz This is also a tarball, only using a better compression. Unpack\n with " xz -dc makepp-2.0.txz | tar xf - " or GNU " tar -xJf makepp-2.0.txz ".
