Refined Concurrency Management: Further investigation into the synchronization model is warranted, particularly addressing the bottleneck imposed by the buffer_mutex during Phase 1 (Pulse Transfer) under conditions of high global activity. Exploring lock-free queues or atomic operations for pulse accumulation, where practical, could reduce contention and improve linear scaling performance under chaotic network conditions.
GMP Efficiency Review: The use of mpz_class for ECC introduces significant overhead due to the requirement for arbitrary-precision arithmetic during all read, write, and parity operations. It is recommended to analyze the maximum realistic data size required per node. If the data volume is predictable, transitioning the memory block storage from a single monolithic mpz_class to an array of standard 64-bit integers with a modified segmented ECC scheme could maintain high data fidelity while substantially reducing processing time during self-healing and normal memory access.
Expansion to True 3D Topology: While the current 30×1×30 planar structure is computationally efficient, enabling configurable lattice generation for a true volumetric 3D topology (e.g., N×N×N) would be beneficial. This would allow researchers to explore emergent complexity unique to volumetric connectivity, such as spherical wave propagation and complex volumetric learning patterns, without the geometric constraints of a 2D sheet.
C. Future Development of the Reinforcement Learning Model
The current STDP and rate-based reinforcement model can be expanded to create a more sophisticated learning system:
Implementation of Homeostasis: To mitigate the inherent instability arising from the 70% excitatory bias, the system should incorporate local homeostatic mechanisms. Instead of relying exclusively on the master GLOBAL_ENERGY knob, local feedback could govern individual node activity thresholds or dynamically regulate local E/I balance in response to sustained hyper- or hypo-activity.
Goal-Oriented Plasticity: The existing connectionHistory provides valuable information on pathway usage. This history should be leveraged by implementing a global reward or utility signal that selectively biases STDP toward potentiation only when specific, desirable output patterns or network states are achieved. This step would complete the transition from unsupervised plasticity to a goal-oriented Reinforcement Learning system.
Advanced Analysis Visualization: To fully utilize the learning mechanisms, the visual pipeline requires tools for real-time analysis of the weight space. Developing visualization overlays to represent the magnitude of ΔT and the resulting weight change surfaces in real-time would provide deeper, immediate insight into the learning phase of the network.
