What's New in Kemono Downloader v6.2.0

This version introduces powerful new ways to manage your collection and keep it up-to-date, along with key improvements for better file organization.

New Feature: Check for Updates

You can now easily check creators for new posts and download only the content you don't already have. This feature saves you time and bandwidth by preventing duplicate downloads.

How It Works:

• Automatic Profile Creation: The app now automatically creates a local profile (a .json file) for each creator you download from. This profile keeps record of all the post IDs you have processed from that creator. Profiles are stored in appdata/creator_profiles.
• Start an Update Check:
  1. Click the 🎨 button next to the URL bar to open the "Creator Selection" popup.
  2. Click the "Check for Updates" button inside the popup.
  3. Select the .json profile of the creator you want to update.
• Find What's New:
  • The application will load the profile and your saved settings for that creator.
  • Click the main 🔄 Check For Updates button.
  • The app will fetch the creator's complete post list and compare with your profile history to find new posts.
• Download Only New Content:
  • If new posts are found, the "Start Download" button shows how many new items are available.
  • Click it to begin downloading only the new content. New post IDs are automatically added to the profile after download.
  • Important Note: When checking a creator with a very large number of new posts, the application may temporarily freeze or display a (Not Responding) status. This is normal. The app is working to fetch and compare the entire post history. Please be patient and wait—it will become responsive again as soon as the check is complete.

Related Setting:

• In the settings dialog (⚙️), you'll find a new option: "Save Creator.json file". This is enabled by default for the "Check for Updates" feature. You can disable it if you do not want the application to save these profiles.

Improved Manga Mode Renaming

• The filename style for Manga/Comic Mode has been enhanced for better organization.
• The old "Original" style has been replaced with "Date + Original".
• This new function now prepends the post's publication date (in YYYY-MM-DD format) to the original filename.
• This change makes it much easier to sort your comic or manga files chronologically in your file explorer, a feature that was missing before.

How to Create a Profile for an Existing Collection

If you downloaded a creator's full collection before version 6.2.0, you can use this method to quickly scan their feed and create the necessary .json profile. This will enable the new "Check for Updates" feature for that creator without re-downloading any files.

This workaround uses the application's filters to process every post while intelligently skipping all file downloads.

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Enter the Creator's URL: Paste the URL for the creator into the main input field.
2. Set the Download Location: Select the main folder where you originally saved this creator's content. While no new files will be downloaded, the application requires a directory to be set.
3. Select the "Only Audio" Filter: In the "Filter Files" section, click the 🎧 Only Audio radio button.
   Since most creators do not post audio files, this filter will cause the application to process every post but skip all the images and videos within them.
4. (If Necessary) Add a Skip Filter: If the creator does have audio files, you can add a second filter to block them:
   • In the 🚫 Skip with Words input box, type the common audio extensions: .mp3, .wav, .flac, .ogg.
   • Make sure the button next to it is set to Scope: Files.
5. Start the Process: Click the ⬇️ Start Download button.
   The application will now quickly run through the creator's entire feed. You will see posts being processed in the log, but no files will actually download. Once the process is complete, the creator.json profile will be created and saved in your appdata/creator_profiles folder, and you can now use the "Check for Updates" feature for that creator going forward.

Bugs Found After Release

Cancel Button Doesn't Always Stop Download:
Sometimes when starting a download and clicking "Cancel", the process does not stop as expected. This happens inconsistently and is more common with large files.

Compress to WebP Not Working:
The "Compress to WebP" feature is currently broken due to a disconnected internal code block. This will be fixed in a future update.

MEGA Download No Longer Supported:
MEGA download functionality is broken due to platform and API changes on MEGA’s end. Please use alternative download methods for now.

All of these issues are scheduled to be addressed in the upcoming release v6.3.0.
