Add-in for microsoft Outlook which always minimizes the application instead of closing it. You'll likely need to first install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package. Then install KeepOutlookRunning.dll as an Add-in under Tools-->Trust Center in outlook. If you're using the 64-bit version of office/outlook, download the 64-bit dll instead.

  • Unbelievable a pricy product like Office/Outlook 2021 has no such option built-in... but this simple DLL fixes the problem when you accidentally click the Close button, finally!
  • Still works for Outlook 2019. Download the right DLL file (32/64-bit). Make sure Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable (x86 or x64) is installed. Run Outlook as Administrator (else, it won't load the Add-in and it won't give any error). You will immediately see it on the list of Add-ins once loaded. Works very well!
  • S O L V E D!!! Even in Outlook 2016 x64/x86 works 1. Check Outlook "bitness" x86 or x64 2. Confirm that proper Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable has installed: 2.1 Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable x86 for Outlook x86 2.2 Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable x64 for Outlook x64 3. Run Outlook as administrator 4. File > Options > Add-Ins > COM Add-ins > Select proper .dll > OK 5. Profit
  • Did work for years. since last outlook update i can't add it as an Add-in anymore. It is a shame it doesn't work anymore (or i am doing something wrong)
  • Im getting file not valid as add-in error, on both x64 versions win7 and office2016, I have uninstalled office2016 x64, and installed office2016 x86, and then I was able to use x86 ddl to keep outlook running. Thanks for saving me money and frustration. (on office2016 x64 run as admin did not help)
