IONIS-AI — HF Propagation Dataset Collection
Curated datasets for HF radio propagation research, built from one of the largest amateur radio propagation datasets we are aware of — 14+ billion observations from WSPR, RBN, contest logs, DXpeditions, and PSK Reporter.
Project: https://ionis-ai.com Ham Stats: https://ham-stats.com Author: Greg Beam, KI7MT
Current Release: v1.0
11 datasets, 20 GB, 175+ million aggregated signatures

Contest Analysis Datasets
Stand-alone propagation snapshots for major HF contest weekends. Each SQLite file is self-contained with PSKR and RBN signatures, solar conditions timeline (including DSCOVR solar wind), and contest metadata.
Separate from versioned training data — contest snapshots are analysis artifacts, never used for model training.
| Contest | Date | PSKR Sigs | RBN Sigs | Solar Story | Format |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ARRL DX CW 2026 | Feb 21-22 | 1.68M | 909K | Kp 1.0→5.33, G1 storm | SQLite |
| ARRL DX SSB 2026 | Mar 7-8 | 1.81M | 130K | Kp 1.0→4.67, storm building | SQLite |
New contest datasets are published within one week of each major contest. See contests/README.md for the full schema, contest calendar, and analysis details.
Who Is This For
- PhD researchers studying ionospheric propagation (greyline, seasonal, solar cycle)
- Propagation analysts who need aggregated band-opening data by grid pair
- Contesters analyzing historical band conditions
- HamSCI / CEDAR academics needing solar-correlated observation datasets
- AI/ML researchers looking for labeled propagation data for model training
Data Quality
- Callsigns stripped — no individual operator activity recoverable
- Balloon contamination filtered (velocity detection + type-2 telemetry)
- Ground-wave paths excluded (>500 km ionospheric skip only)
- Solar indices joined at 3-hour resolution
- SHA-256 checksums in every directory

Most datasets are CC BY 4.0 (free use with attribution). Solar indices
include SILSO sunspot numbers (CC BY-NC 4.0). See CITATIONS.md and
per-directory LICENSE.md files for details.
