This project provides a reference implementation of the Web Map Service Application Profile for Earth Observation Products (v0.3.3), ref. OGC-07-063r1. This 'Best Practice' application profile defines conventions for the Earth Observation (EO) community to use Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Web Map Services. The objective of the profile work is to define how EO data providers can apply the OGC Web Map Service standard in a “standard” way to ensure that the inventory level visualisation of EO data is carried out in a truly interoperable way. The specification for this profile is available at the OGC Web site standards pages (see http://www.opengeospatial.org/standards/wms).

The development and verification of this reference implementation was carried out as part of Phase 2 of the Heterogenious Mission Accessibility Test (HMA-T) activity of the European Space Agency (ESA).

The objective of HMA-T was:
* To permit the evolution and test of the interoperability standards which
have been inirtially defined within the HMA contract within the years
2006-2008, in parallel with the EO Data Access Integration Layer EO-DAIL
implementation and the implementation of the specified interfaces within
the ground segments of the partner organisations.
* To permit the conformance testing of any of the HMA adopted standards
and to support industry and institutions in the testing of their own
products or developments. Reference for conformance testing shall be
considered the Compliance and Interoperability Testing & Evaluation
Initiative - CITE environment developed by the Open Geospatial Consortium
(OGC) for the Web Map Service.
* To support the take up of HMA defined standards by European Institutional
Users (e.g. INSPIRE Legally Mandated Organisations (LMOs) and geospatial
  software product developers.
