Graphite is an open source, modern 2D graphics editor / content creation suite aimed for 2025 and beyond. It supports both raster and vector graphics, nondestructive workflows, procedural tools (node-based editing), real-time motion graphics, and is intended to evolve into a full creative suite including photo editing, desktop publishing, VFX, etc. It is built in Rust and uses node graphs for generative design as part of its core.
Features
- Combined vector & raster editing workflows within one tool, allowing mixed media editing
- Node-based procedural editing, for generative design and parametric effects
- Nondestructive editing: changes via layers or nodes rather than permanently altering source content
- Support for real-time motion graphics and interactive effects on canvas
- Mixed set of tools for layout, painting, image processing, design publishing etc (roadmap includes desktop publishing, VFX compositing)
- Open source, community built, with cross-platform build tooling (Rust / front-end) and demo/artwork assets included
