GitAhead is a free, open-source graphical Git client designed to help developers understand and manage source code history. It provides a visual interface for examining commits, branches, and changes across repositories. Users can inspect differences between revisions and review individual file modifications. The application supports everyday version control operations, including staging changes, creating commits, and managing branches. Its visual history makes it easier to follow development activity and investigate previous changes. Built with C++ and Qt, it integrates with Git repositories through libgit2. GitAhead is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The project is no longer actively developing new features, although maintenance and bug fixes may still be released.

Features

  • Graphical Git repository management with visual commit history exploration
  • Detailed file difference inspection for reviewing source code modifications
  • Selective change staging and commit creation through an interactive interface
  • Branch creation, switching, merging, and repository history navigation
  • Remote repository synchronization with Git authentication and SSH support
  • Cross-platform native desktop interface built with Qt and libgit2
