Geodysseus-0-1-7a for 32 bit Microsoft Windows-XP or later.

This is a development RELEASE snapshot.

This distribution addresses some issues when running on MS-Windows-XP; I was only able to test with this platform on 21st July 2013.

For some reason, the previous Geodysseus-0-1-6a binary, which was lightning fast on Windows-98, crawled on Windows-XP. Specifically map binary paths did not load fast enough. But I only found this out on 21st July 2013 because the bug did not manifest when running the program in Wine on Linux.

This new build, which was compiled in Windows-XP using gcc-4.6.3, fixes the file streaming issue when loading map binary paths. Curiously, the code remains unchanged - it was simply a matter of rebuilding with the new compiler. Application speed is now similar to the Windows-98 version - but only after launching the app for a second time. Perhaps this has something to do with how Windows-XP caches files. (I'm not sure, as I'm new to Windows XP). The app seems stable. The entire globe should now load in a second or so, as should projecting forward to a map.

OpenGL Multisampling (antialiasing) is turned off by default but the globe renders better if Multisampling is turned on. You can turn on Multisampling via the Preferences dialog.

IMPORTANT: If you turn on Multisampling via the Preferences dialog and the app stalls during the next launch, please read the file 'Multisampling-Prefs-Switch.txt' for a solution. If Multisampling does not work, either your card does not support it or the 'Antialiasing Settings' for your OpenGL driver/card are not set to 'Application Controlled'.
