GazePointer is a Webcam eye tracker software that lets you move mouse cursor using your eyes.

GazePointer is a software that uses an ordinary webcam to estimate the direction of your gaze. This information can then be passed to other applications (e.g https://gazerecorder.com/gazescroll/, https://sourceforge.net/projects/gazeboard/ ). For example, used in conjunction with Dasher, GazePointer allows you to write with your eyes.

if you want to integrate GazePointer with your own solution you can access gaze data via GazeFlowAPI: https://github.com/szydej/GazeFlowAPI

User Reviews

  • Don't buy eye trackers, they are over charging you. Little plastic strips with inferred lights that cost 2 times the amount of a vr set.
  • Good tracking. No mouse click.
  • The eye tracker that I used for a little bit was from Eye Tribe, which was bought by Facebook. GazePointer accuracy is bad compared to Eye Tribe, as like Tobii, Eye Tribe uses infrared to light up your eyes. However, all you need to do is download free software like Alt Controller, and create large buttons. Make one of the buttons execute Page Down, and you’ll be able to read hands-free.
  • The software is ingenious - gets better results out of a bog-standard laptop webcam than any other free solution I've tried so far. Sadly, it appears that there is no source code offered - I thought that Sourceforge was FOSS-only, so I'm surprised. What would have been a fantastic base for a FOSS disability-capable app is currently not usable for anything else.

  • Mayur Das (ilovefreesoftware.com) : "I loved this ingenious software which lets the physically disabled use their eyes to control the computer. The software is easy to setup and use but most of all requires no costly hardware or software. However, I would love it if the developer added a means to use the mouse click function too. I give this software an A+."
