exGENT version 260602/240125 Linux Live System is - as the name suggest - based on Gentoo Linux. The best thing with exGENT is the premier auto detection of hardware and the ability to relatively easy install the system to hard drive during a live session. (Calamares Installer). LXQt 2.4.0 is used as Desktop environment. Used kernel: 7.0.10/6.7.1.

exGENT runs on all "normal" and fairly new computers. They run very well also in VirtualBox/VMware.

INSTALLATION
The systems can easily be installed to hard drive and/or a USB flash drive in two ways. Using Calamares Installer or an installation script in /root/install. The installation takes 5 - 20 min. (Depending on computer type).

REFRACTA SNAPSHOT
When running Build 260602 you can create a different Gentoo/exGENT System. I.e. change everything to your liking and then create a new ISO. Your own!

WHO IS exGENT/Gentoo FOR?
Experienced Linux users or those who really want to learn Linux.

  • Very nice lice cd .Thanks for shared
  • I downloaded the iso file exgent-64bit-xfce4-2280mb-160123.iso In order to make a bootable usb stick from the downloaded iso file I used the command: dd bs=4M if=exgent-64bit-xfce4-2280mb-160123.iso of=/dev/sdb I tried to boot from the usb stick but obtained the following error message: "...no boot sector found..." Is there a way to fix this problem?
  • ##UPDATE: Thanks, Arne for pointing me at a mirror that still has the old ISO. I can't post a URL here, but the mirror was: mirror.onet.pl /pub /mirrors /sourceforge /e /ex /exgent/ Great work, Arne! I know you no longer support the 32-bit image, but if any one else has it saved somewhere, I’d really like to give it a go on a 32-bit laptop that I have spare. Be good to compare it to Calculate Linux. I'll follow this good work, by subscribing. Cheers, Chris.
  • super job, over the years, I can do installation very quickly even from the original gentoo live, but I remember my first installation, it was really few days to get the desktop fully working and ages to rebuild when tuning USE variables :D haha ... using distcc already on 64core machine :D thanks
  • Hi Amir, Can't be done. Sorry. Hi vdriftx, You can't use the dd-command. The only way (as far as I know) to install exGENT to a USB stick is described here: exgent.exton.net/install-usb-grub/. NOTE: As from version 170309 you CAN use the dd command. You can also use Etcher and Rufus in Windows to transfer the ISO file to a USB stick.
