Exe GNU/Linux is a complete operating system image for your PC which can be written to CD, DVD or USB and used in temporary "live" mode or as a permanent installation.
Most desktop or laptop PC's can run Exe GNU/Linux as a selectable alternative to or a replacement for their current operating systems.
Exe GNU/Linux contains only open-source, free, GPL-licenced software.
Exe GNU/Linux live images are based on Devuan GNU/Linux and use the Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE). Versions for i386 (older 32 bit) and amd64 (most 64 bit) computers are available.
Please use the most recent "stable" version (codename Daedalus) suitable for your hardware.
There may also be some recent Devuan "Testing" (Excalibur) or "Unstable" (Ceres) versions available. These are essentially for testing purposes, will be quickly outdated and you will need to maintain it yourself.
This is *not* an official Devuan nor TDE project but is intended to be 100% compatible with both.

Very pleased with Exe GNU! Trinity is a great desktop environment for older computers. Installation is a little tricky as you have to do all the partitioning yourself, which is OK if you don't mind doing that. The problem I had is that I couldn't get it to boot using any partition scheme other than single partition + swap. I tried about 10 times using various boot/system/home partition configurations and none of them would boot. It ONLY worked for me if I put the entire OS onto a single partition. I almost gave up. There are some default programs installed that I don't think are necessary for a new installation (Midnight Commander, Konversation, KTorrent, GTK Pipe Viewer, Digital Camera, KOffice, KGet, WinFF, KArm, to name a few). In my opinion, these are rather specialty tools that I think should be left up to the user to install if they want them.. but it's no big deal to uninstall. My wifi adapter didn't work out of the box due to lack of nonfree firmware but I was able to get online with Android USB tether without any fuss, to buy me some time to order a new adapter that doesn't require nonfree software. One very minor (but annoying) gripe is I wish the Utilities menu didn't put the utilities into subdirectories.. for example to access KCalc, you need to click the menu button>Utilities menu>Desktop Menu>KCalc. It is a lot of mouse gymnastics to access the calculator and other basic apps. I think these should just be all in the root Utilities menu for easier access. Overall, I'm very happy with ExeGNU and enjoying using it now that I have everything configured to my liking.

Earlier versions and this latest 2025 edition don't seem to like newer hardware and I finally had to resort to virtualbox to see what is was actually like. I guess the target audience is for older machines, but it seems a bit poor newer hardware is not fully catered for. I like the old school trinity desktop and it seems to have sensible software choices - for older machines. Been a while since I've seen K3B (CD/DVD burner) because I went off KDE around version 4 as too bloated and buggy and it must be at least a decade since I included an optical drive in a PC build. As another choice for resurrecting old hardware it has some merit, but people with newer hardware have better choices elsewhere.

Fast, light and very easy to install; I've really enjoyed my experience running Exe GNU/Linux for these past six months. The TDE desktop has everything that I need and is very familiar and uncomplicated. I've written a more detailed review of EXE on my personal blog, which can be found if you visit the Vivaldi.net community space. I highly recommend EXE to both the novice and experienced desktop computer user.
