Audiveris is a free, open-source optical music recognition application designed to convert printed sheet music into editable digital notation. It analyzes scanned scores and images using image processing, optical character recognition, and neural network techniques. The software identifies musical symbols such as notes, rests, clefs, beams, and time signatures. Its integrated editor allows users to review recognition results and manually correct transcription errors. Audiveris supports extensive musical scores containing hundreds of pages and can export recognized notation in MusicXML format. Its recognition settings can be adjusted to accommodate different score characteristics and image quality. Built with Java, it runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux and supports music preservation, editing, and digital publishing.
