Aria2 Next is a free, open-source download engine that modernizes aria2 while preserving its familiar command-line interface and remote control protocols. It supports HTTP, HTTPS, SFTP, BitTorrent, magnet links, ED2K, Kad, Metalink, HLS, and DASH transfers. Its architecture uses specialized libraries such as libcurl, libtorrent, GPAC, and FFmpeg for individual protocols. Adaptive segment scheduling optimizes download performance by distributing work according to connection speeds. Interrupted downloads can resume from saved checkpoints after crashes or restarts. Compatibility with aria2 configuration files, session files, JSON-RPC, and XML-RPC allows existing tools to remain useful. Streaming media tools support track selection, live recording, and restartable segments. Builds are available for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android.
