AirGuard is a free, open-source Android application developed to detect unwanted tracking through Apple AirTags and Find My accessories. Created by researchers at the Technical University of Darmstadt, it uses Bluetooth scanning to identify nearby tracking devices. The application periodically records detected trackers and examines whether they appear to follow the user's movements. When suspicious tracking patterns are identified, AirGuard sends a notification warning about a potentially unwanted device. Users can inspect recorded detection locations and trigger sounds on compatible AirTags to help locate them. Its detection process operates locally without transmitting personal location information or tracker identifiers to external servers. AirGuard also offers optional participation in anonymized scientific research.
