AdbTether 0.1.2
The update check now says what it found, and the prompt fits the window.
Changed
- The check reports its result as a snackbar. It floats over the Settings page near the bottom edge and closes itself after three seconds, instead of pushing the page content around or landing below the fold. The close button dismisses it at once, and a check that is still running announces itself in the same snackbar, where it waits without a timer.
- The update prompt lists the release notes. A "What's new" box shows the release body as plain text in a fixed-height area, so long notes scroll instead of stretching the dialog past the window.
- Settings gains a "Check for updates at startup" switch. The prompt offers the same choice as a checkbox, and both write the one stored preference, so whichever one you touch, the other still reads the truth. The choice is kept in
%LOCALAPPDATA%\AdbTether\update-preferences.json, so it survives the install restarting the app. - The prompt is centred and no longer overlaps the title bar. Its width constraint sat on the dialog itself, which also constrained its smoke layer and pushed the card off centre; the width now lives on the content root. The "service offline" dialog had the same defect. The prompt's content is also tightened vertically, so the card clears the caption buttons.
- "Check for updates" greys out while a check is running, the silent startup check included, instead of the click vanishing without a trace.
Fixed
- A failed check reports in the Settings page, and the separate error dialog is gone.
- The MSI build refuses to ship without the phone-side ws-proxy. The UI project copies the proxy only when it has been cross-compiled, so a release built with
-SkipAndroidshipped an MSI whose tunnel cannot work on a device.-AllowMissingProxyopts out for throwaway MSIs.
Install
Download AdbTether-0.1.2.msi below and run it. Windows will ask for elevation: the package is per-machine and installs the AdbTetherService service with Automatic start.
:::powershell
msiexec /i AdbTether-0.1.2.msi # GUI
msiexec /i AdbTether-0.1.2.msi /qn # silent
msiexec /x AdbTether-0.1.2.msi /qn # silent uninstall
Upgrading from 0.1.1 happens in place: both releases share the same UpgradeCode, and 0.1.2 is the version the app's Settings > Check for updates offers.
Notes
- The MSI is not code-signed, so SmartScreen may warn on first run.
- Requires Windows 10 1809 (build 17763) or newer, x64.
- Tunnelling needs a device authorised for ADB and administrator rights for the Wintun adapter.
- The MIT license now names its copyright holder.
