Yes, I was trying to get sleep the other night and
started dreaming...
...and an idea descendeth upon me, I don't know
whether any of you guys have already thought about
this: a mouse-driven graphical order list editor,
based on "building blocks" (patterns in this case)?
And to be more exact, I mean something like in
FruityLoops, but of course better :)
The main idea behind this is that it should make it
possible to play two or more patterns simultaneously,
thus making it possible to for example write separate
patterns for drumtrack and rest of the stuff. That way
you would only need to edit one pattern and the
drumtrack would change for all of the song.
I don't know whether this would be possible, but it
would be very cool if the play list editor would
reflect the actual pattern lenghts too. This is
exactly the downfall of FruityLoops in my opinion...
but then in ZT you could, in a way reminiscent of
Cubase, layer 8x16 line patterns (drumtrack) to track
1 and track 2 would be only 1x128 line pattern
(melody).
A graphical editor would also make it much clearer to
arrange a song and especially edit the song at a later
date (come on, we all know how messy they tend to get).
And of course the best thing is that you could still
use the old fashion way if you wanted to!
Well... what a mess, but that was about it. Like I
said, this is only an early idea, I am sure there a
much more important things to do at the moment... But
please everyone tell me what you think, even if you
despise the idea, perhaps we can think of
something! ...to get even further upper-hand against
other so-called trackers :)
Best regards,
isotopX

Yeah.. I like the idea.. although I'm so used with putting
everything in the pattern editor, I now organize everything
strickly..
track 1-3 are drums.. when I want to have a 4th track at
the end of my song, I change the whole song, so the 4th
track is drums too.. (empty in this case. :)
Yes.. I'm neurotic, but after a year or so I still want
to "know" my songs. :)
BUT! your idea sounds very good! Although I think its a lot
of work..
Not that I program anything, but you got my vote. :)
btw: I believe this was mentioned somewhere earlier.. at
least I heared this before, a order screen just like
fruityloops (only better ofcourse. :)

dunno how you guessed, but this is exactly the idea i have
for zt2 .. ill post a scrshot of the notes ive drawn on
paper this weekend and you can see what im thinking of, but
i plan on making it very very cool ;)
possibly there would be a way to use a number-based order
editor also... for the purists, i dunno
