Hi.
An user just replaced his android phone with a Samsung Galaxy S8. His contacts are not fully syncing, and in z-push error log I found the following:
That's rather strange.
He's using Gmail app and ActiveSync.
z-push 2.3.8+0-0 installed from packages, backend v66.
thanks
I have never tested with the GMail app.
Has he tried the Email App? I use it on my S8 and have no problems.
I added my account to my S8 Gmail app this evening and had no issues whatsoever.
Does he have the latest GMail app on the phone?
Did he add the account as Exchange and Office 365 type?
Does he have AutoDiscover configured and working - or did he configure it manually?
Does he have a valid SSL certificate?
Did he get the prompt to say that Security Policies would be updated?
Did he get the prompt to allow Remote Administration?
Some answers:
1. almost sure it has the latest version, need to check later
2. yes, added as Exchange
3. no autodiscover, just entered the server manually
4. yes
5. have to ask, but I suppose so as all elements (mail, contacts, calendar) get synced
6. as 5
I must say that it hasn't been throwing those messages anymore on the whole day yesterday. Instead I found these:
I'm using Ubuntu 16 with default PHP 7.0.22-0ubuntu0.16.04.1.
Yesterday I've been out of office all the day, I'll check how it's going today.
Something I forgot to mention when opening the thread is that when I edit a contact which hasn't been synced on the phone it will appear right after. I don't kow if a simple full resync would solve the problem.
thanks.
I issued a remove this morning and after some time it resynced everything, including the missing items. Now everything seems ok, time will tell if there are other contacts missing :D I'll let you know, thanks so far!
After some days some contacts started disappearing... Unfortunately it's hard to find it out with hundreds of contacts, so the user notices it only when someone needed is missing.
What's the best way to debug this issue? Enable ZIMBRA_DEBUG or something else? z-push-error.log doesn't show anything beside some orphaned shares, not even in that account.
thanks
It started behaving the same also on my phone. I never noticed such behavior, but today I got a phone call and the name was showing. Then when I closed the call the history just had the number, no name anymore.
Again no errors in z-push-errors.log. In apache's error.log I just have this:
Backend r66
There is a fix in Release 67 for multi-server environments where the client can connect to the zimbra proxy and get authenticated - but for sync requests the connection has to be able to reach the user's mailbox server. If there was an issue with that server, or if it was temporarily offline for backup, then the user could get an empty folder list returned to them. This would cause the device to drop the folders.
Can you please update to Release 67 to see if it helps.
upgraded. I'll let you know, thanks!
I'm still experiencing contacts disappearing on the phone, the S8. This morning I had a contact and it was gone in the afternoon. The only errors I found in the user debug are these:
could these cause such glitches?
Yes - proxy errors could cause the issues. Did you see my response on the z-push forum?

So I should enable wbxml and see what's going on with zimbra proxy?
Shouldn't the backend retry on this kind of errors?
There is retry logic in there to retry on encountering certain errors. But, there is a chance this is a new scenario I have not seen/allowed for.
