License violation

It has come to my attention that Leblitzer is offering an illegally modified version of Y to ICS on his website, http://www.leblitzer.com . I am currently composing a letter to him asking him to withdraw this version from his website.

If it comes down to it, I may need to hire a lawyer to deal with this, and I may need financial help. Please do not send any donations regarding this issue yet; I will post another news item if I will require financial assistance.... read more

Progress / Name Change

Major progress has been made on the C version of Y to ICS. I expect it to be able to play full games of chess within the next two months.

The name of the C version has been changed to YICS to avoid confusion. Not only is this name easier to recognize in a normal sentence, but it provides a handy way to distinguish between the Perl version (Y to ICS) and the C version (YICS).

Language change

I have decided to start rewriting Y to ICS as a C program. One final release of the Perl version will be made, and then will no longer be developed.

There are several reasons for this. The major reason is that the Windows binary distribution will be incredibly small (compared to what it is now). Y to ICS 0.0.3 released

This release contains two quick bugfixes that should reduce any lag problems you were experiencing with previous versions. Special thanks to Wet for helping me track this down.

Y to ICS 0.0.2 released

The next version of Y to ICS is now publicly available! In this version, you can actually play full games now instead of just watching, as well as manage tables that you are the host of.

Please read the documentation carefully! This program is not easy to set up.

Windows version of Y to ICS scheduled for release

After the 0.0.2 version is out, a binary Windows release will be available, thanks to IndigoStar's generosity in selling me Perl2Exe Pro for a reduced price. Check them out at http://www.indigostar.com

This means that you will NOT need any distribution of Perl to use Y to ICS on Windows; the release will contain EXE files instead of PL files.

Y to ICS 0.0.1 released

Y to ICS' first public release! Here is a list of the more striking features:

* Full ICS server emulation.
* Familiar variable system.
* Lobby chat, private chat, and board chat (implemented as shout, tell, and kibitz).
* Multiple style support (currently only style 12 is implemented).
* Near-complete game observation.

Please post any bugs/feature requests on the appropriate tracker. Enjoy!
