For some time I've been hoping the vidos would have been posted somewhere, but so far most of them haven't how ever the continuous raw streams are available. The first day's one is at the URL below, and my workshop starts at 120 (the first few seconds were lost. Handling this stuff has made me even more hesitant that usual! Also, unfortunately I had a lot of trouble balancing the audio from the mic and Yoshimi as I couldn't hear the mix :( https://fr3.octoconf.com/playback/presentation/2.0/playback.html?meetingId=b1ffbf01b3382a96e15d14906d5175525a1f4ad6-1606289221601 -- Will J Godfrey http://www.musically.me.uk http://yoshimi.github.io Say you have a poem and I have a tune. While playing about with channel aftertouch a couple of issues have cropped up. The first is that there is something wrong with my maths! (no surprise there). For filter cutoff and Q I tried to arrange it so that it would always work from and return to the current controller setting - well that only works for the mid position. This is a nuisance rather than a problem, as that is the default for these controllers and people don't seem to change them much. If anyone likes to see what I did wrong, the code is in Part.cpp from line 259 for channel, and line 1087 for key The other one is a long standing oddity in the way modulation works. It applies *individually* to AddSynth and PadSynth (not SubSynth) and only if the frequency LFO depth is set for those engines. Also if both engines are active you have the near impossibility of setting these to exactly the same value! Go into kit mode and, well, just forget it! What I'm wondering is if we could create a new LFO based on the way pitch bend works. This would give a unified modulation over all engines. It might be possible to actually sort of sit it on top of pitch bend so you can have both. Any ideas? -- Will J Godfrey http://www.musically.me.uk Say you have a poem and I have a tune. There was a preliminary attempt at supporting this about 5 years ago with a patch supplied by Harry van Haaren, but it didn't really work and nobody seemed particularly interested so nobody pursued it. Someone trying to revive interest in Non Session has now asked about it, and supplied a patch (I didn't at first realise it was almost certainly that original one). This can't be applied at all to current versions of Yoshimi. The question is whether anyone is interested in this, and more to the point, whether anyone wants to do the work! -- Will J Godfrey http://www.musically.me.uk Say you have a poem and I have a tune. Hi all, After a package upgrade, yoshimi does not start on my Debian (sid), giving the following error: Yoshimi 1.6.0 is starting mxml: XML does not start with '<' (saw ' '). XML: File /home/prosperoh/.config/yoshimi/yoshimi.config is not XML XML: Not good, XMLwrapper peek on an empty parentstack XML: Not good, XMLwrapper peek on an empty parentstack extractConfigData, no BASE_PARAMETERS branch Bail: Yoshimi stages a strategic retreat :-( I have seen the same issue already reported a few weeks ago by a member of the list on Archlinux: https://sourceforge.net/p/yoshimi/mailman/message/36756548/ I could temporarily solve the issue by manually installing a previous version of yoshimi and libmxml1. Given the error it is likely that the error is caused by the upgrade to libmxml2. Since you are asking for this in the other post, I am already sending you a mail with my yoshimi.config file, Will. However it is the one generated by yoshimi at first start: if I rename it, the first launch of Yoshimi works (I cannot load state files though) but if I restart it afterwards it starts to fail. Thanks, all the best, Paul |

Hi everyone. I'd be very grateful to hear from anyone on this list who is using Yoshimi under Archlinux. Yoshimi was working fine for me until the beginning of this week when I upgraded my system to the latest version of Archlinux. Since I did this, Yoshimi has become completely unusable. As a totally blind person, I rely on Yoshimi's command line interface. Having just installed Yoshimi, I launch it with yoshimi -Ci, set Jack as my audio and midi interface and then choose which Jack midi port I would like Yoshimi to auto-connect to next time I start it. Having done this, I save Yoshimi's configuration and exit the program. This all works fine, but when I next load Yoshimi and it tries to access my saved configuration file, I get the following errors: Yoshimi 1.6.0 is starting mxml: XML does not start with '<' (saw ' '). XML: File /home/john/.config/yoshimi/yoshimi.config is not XML XML: Not good, XMLwrapper peek on an empty parentstack XML: Not good, XMLwrapper peek on an empty parentstack extractConfigData, no BASE_PARAMETERS branch Bail: Yoshimi stages a strategic retreat :-( I would be very grateful if anyone can tell me what these error messages mean and how I can avoid them and get Yoshimi to start successfully again. At the moment, I simply can't use it. Many thanks in advance for any help. Kind regards, John |
